Chapter 30 – Soul-Eating Insect (3)
I got goosebumps from all that. "Is he okay now?" I asked Grandpa in concern.
"It's not that simple," Grandpa said, sighing.
Third Uncle woke up one hour later. Confused after waking, he asked, "What happened to me?"
"What happened?" Grandpa scoffed. "I didn't think that the so-called 'top of the world' Lin the Third would get tricked one day too. You almost died, which doesn't matter, but do you know that you almost killed Baqian too?"
Third Uncle sat up. "Dad, stop that attitude now. Can't you just tell me what happened?"
"First, you tell me what you did these few months."
Third Uncle recounted that around three months ago, his friend introduced him to two outlanders. Both their clothes and the way they talked made them seem rich. Third Uncle was a rogue, but he needed money. These two guys said that there was a big business. If Third Uncle was willing to work with them, he'd definitely make money. Interested, he asked what exactly was the business.
The two men took out an ancient map. They said that there was the tomb of an imperial concubine in the mountains of Dangyang County. If he followed the map, he'd be able to find the tomb. There was an endless pile of jewelry and riches in the tomb. If he could enter it, he'd definitely have so much money that he couldn't spend it all in this life.
Third Uncle finally understood that they were grave robbers. With his personality, grave robbers were no different from murderers. However, he also had his concerns. "You have this map," he said. "If you go dig it up, it'll be a pretty good deal. Why don't you go yourself? There's no reason to give it to me."
Then the two guys said, "We're outsiders, after all. We're not familiar with this area, so we wanted to find a brother who's familiar and also skilled. That's you, right, Third Brother? They all said that you're the most powerful in this area. If you're willing to help, we're already halfway to success."
Third Uncle loved getting compliments. When these two guys praised him, he was on cloud nine. So, after getting a bit drunk, he immediately claimed, "You're completely right! There's nothing in this county that I can't do!"
Third Uncle needed money. His group of friends all had trouble finding their next meal. He sorely needed money and was also confident that these two outsiders didn't dare to trick him, so he agreed easily. He'd planned on bringing all his guys with him, but the two outsiders said that tomb raiding was better with fewer people. They were going to steal instead of robbing someone. Plus, more people meant more mouths knowing the secret. This made sense to Third Uncle, so he went to Dangyang alone with them.
Here, Grandpa scoffed. "As expected of Lin the Third. You're so brave. People only do something like grave robbing with their closest brothers. You went alone with two strangers to do this. So amazing!"
"Dad, stop mocking me," Third Uncle said, annoyed. "I think they must've drugged me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gone so stupidly with them. At the very least, I would've brought my closest guys with."
