We called Grace and Victoria over to my house that day to celebrate. The glee radiating off Wendy's face was contagious. She never looked this happy when she was with Emmett.
All four of us were sprawled on my bed, half eaten pizza slices and coke cans in hand. A melody was playing on the stereo softly as background and we were all in pjs.
It was a girl night.
"Wendy..." Victoria began, she had been lying on her stomach flipping through the fashion magazine my mom had bought, "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous of you right now. I had a tiny crush on him, girl"
There's a slight twitch in Wendy's eye but she smiles sweetly. "Join the line, lady. The number of girls wanting to take my position right now are more than two dozen"
"I'm really happy for you," Victoria says whole heartedly and finally lifts her head to meet her gaze. "Also I've found the best outfit you could wear for the date he is taking you this Saturday"
And the both of them get lost between the colourful glazed pages in their hands, gushing about it's beauty. I and Grace watch them silently, a soft smile on our lips.
"It must be so difficult for you to pretend you didn't know anything from the beginning," whispers Grace beside me sending a mischievous smile on the way. I shrug my shoulders giving her another sly grin.
"Shhhh," I gesture her with a finger on my lips. "It was all for her"
"I wish I had such a guy after me" I detect the slight want entwined in her voice as she speaks. Which girl wouldn't want a guy like Spencer in her life? He's... Perfect.
Or as close to perfect as one can be.
I give her a nod in agreement. "You know what he's planning for their date?" I ask wiggling my brows. This catches her attention like no other and she turns to me with a horror stricken face.
"How do you know?!" She shreiks and I immediately put my hand to cover her loud mouth.
"Slow it down," I say hoping the news hadn't reached to the two girls sitting in front of us. I peered at them but they seemed to be lost debating how to pronounce different shades.
"How do you know?" she asks again but slowly this time. I can get surprise and frustration when I just give her a smile as an answer.
"I guess he trusts me" I say with a voice that held pride.
"Liar, it's only because you know her better and that's why he asks you whether she'll like it or no" she me gives a little push and I raise my hands in surrender giving her a cheeky smile
"Find me a guy like him" she says in a dreamy voice and I shake my head.
"Not all of us are princesses," I tell her bringing my pizza slice up and taking a bite.
She just shoved me before narrowing her eyes at me. I chortle and offer her a bite from my slice. She readily takes it.
"Ella! ELLA!" Victoria's voice makes me turn towards her with raised eyebrows.
"Don't you think Wendy should wear a dress?" She asks holding up the page that shows a knee length red dress that flows beautifully. I must say it's a wise choice but I don't think it'll suit the occassion on Saturday.
Spencer is taking Wendy to the new amusement park fifteen towns over. It's a surprise for her.
Damn, smooth boy.
The tickets alone have costed half of our tuition fee and he has something else planned too. He didn't tell me that.
I interject the two chatting girls by raising my index finger, "I think you should ask Spencer where he intends to take and how you should wear"
Both of them nod.
"But wherever he takes you, put efforts in your appearance," Victoria tells Wendy grabbing her by the arm and making her swear.
"It's not like he's going to notice much," I chuckle and chug the rest of my coke down my throat. Beside me Grace coughs loudly.
"You really don't know much about boys, do you?" Victoria says giving me a sad smile and placing her delicate hand over her chest.
I narrow my eyes at her.
"What do you mean?"
Pursing her lips she gets ready to answer, "Boys notice every small detail of the girl they like"
Do they, really?
I give her smirk and nod as if she is right.
"I'm serious, Ella" She says finishing up her pizza and straightening up.
"She's right Wendy," Grace joins her and I raise my brows at her.
"Half of the male population is dumb" I counteract.
They all roll their eyes at me.
"Side effects of being single for too long, " Victoria laughs.
"She never had a proper man woo her before," adds Wendy giving me a sympathetic look.
I huff and cross my arms across my chest. "Please enlighten me then"
And then the night took turn I didn't think it would.
