Chereads / When The Rain Stops / Chapter 5 - Chapter Five

Chapter 5 - Chapter Five

Winter dropped me off at home, and I decided to take Daisy to the dog park to socialize. I let her off the leash and sat on the bench again. I pulled out my phone and decided to call Terre. It rang a couple times before he picked up.

"Hello?"

"Hey, it's Mahina."

"Oh, hey!" Terre sounded much more excited then I expected, "What's up?"

"I'm at the dog park with Daisy right now, and I wanted to ask if you were still free on Friday?" I started chewing on my lip from the nervousness I could feel churning my stomach.

"Yeah! Friday works for me.  What would you want to do?"

"Oh, uh..." I frantically racked my brain to find something to do, "I didn't think this far, I'm sorry."

Terre laughed.

I smiled to myself. He has an adorable laugh.

"Do you like roller skating?"

"This is kind of embarrassing, but I've never gone roller skating..."

"Seriously!? It's so much fun! We are totally doing that on Friday!" He paused for a second, "Of course if you're okay with that, I don't want to make you do that-"

"Terre, it sounds fun! I'd love to learn." I smiled, even though he couldn't see it.

"Sweet! I know a rink in town. I can pick you up?" His statement came off more as a question, "Or of course if you're more comfortable-"

"Terre, it's fine! You can pick me up. What time should I expect you?" I chucked at his gutlessness. I felt someone sit next to me on the bench, but I didn't care to look at who it was.

"Okay! Um, how about seven?" He sounded a bit more confident now.

"Perfect. This might be a weird question, but what is best to wear when rollerskating?"

He chuckled lightly, "Something comfortable and light. It's probably going to be warm in there."

"Awesome, thank you."

"Anytime," He paused for a second, "I guess I'll uh, see you Friday?"

"It's a date?"

"It's a date. I'll talk to you later, Luna. Bye."

"Bye." I clicked end call and stomped my feet on the ground. I bit my lip as I leaned back on the bench and looked up at the clear blue sky. It reminded me of Terre's eyes.

"So, you have a date on Friday?" I turned to Kennedy with a giant smile on my face.

"Your listening skills have improved."

"I've been working on them. Who is it?" Kennedy hadn't turned to look at me.

"Like I would tell you."

"Alright, alright. No need to be hostile." He finally looked at me. His tears almost made me feel bad. Keyword: almost. "I didn't know you wanted to go rollerskating. I would've taken you."

"And flirted with the girls working; yeah, I know. It wouldn't have been the first time." My phone vibrated in my hand. I looked down to see a text from Terre; What's a good address to pick you up at?

"I just wanted to make a friend or two." He rolled his eyes.

"A friend with benefits that your girlfriend didn't know about? I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid, Kennedy."

"Please, call me Kenny," He turned his body towards mine and placed his hand on my knee.

I tossed his hand off me, "Only your friends call you 'Kenny.' I'm not your friend."

"Mina-" He grabbed my hand.

"Only my friends call me 'Mina." I ripped my hand away from him, "You're not my friend." Kennedy rose his hands in defense.

"Alright, Mahina... Can we be friends? I miss you."

"Do you miss me? Or do you miss how I bent to your every want and need?  Or how I canceled my plans for an entire day just to spend five minutes with you before you went out with her again?" I raised my eyebrows as I waited for his response.

He didn't respond, so I continued, "You don't miss me. You miss how I treated you like a king while you treated me like dirt, and I didn't put up a fight like every other girl you have tried to get with since I left you. You had a good girl, but you treated me like crap, and I'm not going to let you get the chance to treat me like that again."

"Mahina, please-"

"No, Kennedy."

Kennedy grabbed my arm tightly, "Let me finish, Mina."

I ripped my arm away from him, and I whistled for Daisy. She quickly sprinted over to me and growled at Kennedy, "Daisy, no." She stopped growling and rubbed against my leg.

"Put your filthy hands on me again, and I'll call the cops." I turned and started walking to the exit. I whistled for Daisy after looking down and not seeing her. We exited the dog park, and I crouched down to Daisy and clipping her leash to her collar.

"Do you think he'll go away?" Daisy groaned, "I was afraid you'd say that." I stood back up and opened my phone. I pulled up Winter's contact and called her.

"Hey, what's up?" She answered after a couple of rings.

"Kennedy won't leave me alone. First, he tried calling me and texting me, so I had to change my number. Then he tried social media, I had to block him on there. Now, he's harassing me at the dog park."

"I'm on it."

"Winter, I think I have to get a restraining order."

"Are you sure?"

"He's starting to get physical. I might as well nip it at the bud, you know?"

"Alright, I'll get on it ASAP." I heard Winter start typing away at her computer.

"Thanks, Snow. You're the best!"

"I know, I know. I have to get to work on this, so I'll text you later, okay?"

"Coolio, bye," I clicked end after Winter said goodbye.

The week flew by, and before I knew it, it was Friday morning. After I finished my morning routine, which is a shower, then wearing sweatpants and a hoodie, I let Daisy outside to do her business. I checked my phone notifications once we got back inside, and I answered a few direct messages from fans.

smiley_miley: I LOVE YOUR MUSIC MINA!!!!! ARE THERE ANY NEW SINGLES COMING SOON?????

minamoon: yep!! keep your eyes open ;)

Many of the messages were a variety of "hey," "hello," "hi," and things of the like. I responded to random ones with "hi :3" and watched for messages of them keyboard smashing and saying that they didn't think I would actually respond. I never miss the ones with jokes.

musicwhisperer321: what did the custodian say when he jumped out of the closet?

minamoon: :D what did he say??

musicwhisperer321: SUPPLIES!!!

musicwhisperer321: also omg I'm so glad you responded!! :') I love telling people jokes!!

minamoon: OMG, that was a good one!! I've never heard that one before!

minamoon: keep the jokes coming!! it brightened my day :D!!

After I answered a few more questions and laughed at more jokes, I checked the time and saw that it was almost two-thirty in the afternoon. Daisy wandered into my room and hopped onto my bed and lay next to me. I laid back on my bed, "Daisy, what do I do for the next four and a half hours?"

I looked over at my desk and saw my camera. "We could record a video?"

Daisy didn't make a sound. "Okay, guess not..." I got up off my bed and went into my kitchen to look through the cupboards. They were like bare bones. "Looks like I'm going grocery shopping." I quickly grabbed my purse off the coffee table and tossed my phone in it. Daisy heard the jingle of my keys and quickly trotted to the door, waiting for me to open it.

"You know you're going to be sitting in the car most of the time, right?" Daisy whined in response. "You're lucky, I love you." I grabbed Daisy's leash and opened the door for her. Once we got to my car, I opened the door and let her jump in the back seat.

"Dang! I should've grabbed my camera! I could've recorded a car vlog!" I groaned to myself and set up my phone on my dash. I hit record and started my car.

"Hi, Mini Moons! Mina here, and welcome to another car vlog! Today's edition; supermarket run!" I pulled out of the parking lot and jammed along with the radio until I pulled into the store parking lot as one of my songs came on the radio.

"Oh my God, guys! This is my song! Literally, this is my song!" My arms were flailing around, and I was trying to contain my excitement. "This is the first time I've heard my song on the radio! Holy crap, this is amazing!"

I sang along with my favorite part, "I don't even know why I'm crying. Baby, you're just tired, get some rest. Reached out for help, you pushed away my hand. Now I'm scared to ever try again. I know I'm a lot, I'm trying my best. I just want to make it through this mess. If I don't, it was my cause of death. I was just the child you couldn't accept.

"This is definitely one of the sadder songs on my EP, but it's definitely more personal than the others." My song finished, and I got ready to go into the store. "Anyway, let's get some shopping done!"

***

I wandered up and down the aisles grabbing things I needed and making dumb jokes along the way. Every once in a while, a worker would catch me doing something stupid and chuckle to themselves or give me an annoyed look.

I hadn't realized someone had come down the aisle, and I was swinging a box of vanilla cake mix around as I sang Cake by the Ocean by DNCE.

"Let's lose our minds and go crazy crazy whoa- Oh my god! I am so sorry!" I said as I hit someone in the face with the box of mix. I quickly put it back on the shelf and turned to the person.

"Terre?"

He blinked a couple of times before looking at me, "Oh, hi, Luna."

"Is your face alright?!"

"Yes, I'm fine. It didn't hurt, it just stunned me." Terre laughed, and I relaxed. "Why were you dancing with a box, anyway?"

"Oh yeah, uh," I could feel my face turning red from embarrassment. "I was recording a vlog for my YouTube channel."

"Are you dancing with everything in the store?" Terre laughed again when he saw me at a loss for words, "Luna, I'm messing with you."

I noticed his basket and saw a few items in it. "Let me pay for your items as an apology."

"No way, it's totally fine. I'm honestly just glad it was you and not some random girl."

I glanced at my watch and saw it was almost six-fifteen. Oh my God, I wasted two hours in the grocery store. What is wrong with me?

"Your bun is cute, by the way."

Ope, we're falling real quick.

"Oh uh, thanks. I didn't try to do my hair nice since I was just grabbing groceries." I rubbed the back of my neck and leaned against my cart, forgetting it was on wheels. The cart rolled and I stumbled to regain my balance. I sheepishly smiled.

"Well, I will let you get back to grocery shopping, and I will see you at seven."

"Awesome sauce, I will totally one-hundred-percent see you at seven." I mentally facepalmed for my awkwardness.

Terre softly smiled at me and I could see the amusement in his eyes."Bye Luna, see you soon," he said and walked out of the aisle.

I turned back to my phone that was still leaned against an instant cheesecake mix box.

"Why do I have to be so awkward!? Argh!" I rubbed my hands over my face and stopped recording. My heart dropped when I remembered that Daisy has been in my car this whole time. I shoved my phone in my hoodie pocket and quickly went to one of the self-checkouts, scanning everything as fast as I could. I finished, paid, and sprinted to my car with my cart full of groceries.

I heard Daisy bark once she saw me and I opened the door, hugging her. "My precious Daisy, I am so sorry!" I loaded the groceries and sped home.

Once I got home and put away the groceries, I had twenty-five minutes before Terre is supposed to pick me up.

"Thank the Lord I showered this morning," I mumbled to myself and quickly changed out of my sweatpants and sweatshirt into shorts and a black tank top. I put a red-checkered flannel on over it. I slapped on some basic eye make-up and heard a knock at my door as I finished my mascara.

Daisy let out a small bark to remind me that someone was at the door as I opened it. Terre was standing there with a bundle of beautifully arranged flowers.

"Hi, Mahina. These are for you," He awkwardly handed me the flowers. It sounded weird when he called me Mahina instead of Luna.

"Thank you, Terre. They're beautiful. Come in, I'll put these in some water then we can head out." Terre stepped in and followed me into my small kitchen.

I opened the cupboard and reached up to grab my vase but pushed it back instead of forward. Terre came to my side and reached up to grab the vase. His torso brushed against my arm and I had to work extremely hard to control my breathing.

Terre set the vase on the counter, "You seemed to be struggling, so I thought I'd help." He winked down at me. I bashfully smiled at him and thanked him.

"You look really nice by the way." I could feel Terre watching me as I set the flowers in the vase.

"You don't look too bad yourself," I winked at him and smiled. "Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah. You are going to love this."
