Chapter 69 - The Quarter-Finals - Part 7

The craze of the last match was still fresh among the crowds. A loud noise of them gossiping could be heard throughout the stadium.

The medical team confirmed that Ren suffered no lasting injuries. She was knocked out because of the shock, and her consciousness returned within fifteen minutes. However, she was exhausted and would require some rest before she is back to normal.

The rest was something they recommended to everyone who had been through an exhausting long duel, so one could be assured that there was nothing to be worried about.

As soon as the stage was prepared, there was an announcement calling the participants for the final match of the day.

It was the match between Amaya Tsuchi and Daichi Kyoujin.

Both had remarkable physical and magical skills, but if one was to look at the physical strength, Daichi was at a clear advantage. His muscles were well-developed, and his speed could be significantly boosted using magic.

The fighting style he used involved both power and speed, and his magical abilities came in the form of raw physical strength. There were barely any walls that he wouldn't be able to break with his fists.

In comparison to him, Amaya's techniques involved using her magical abilities for short and long-distance combat. She could manipulate the ground at her will and use it for both offense or defense.

The two of them were excellent fighters who could easily hold their own against most of the opponents out there. But they had one significant weakness — both of them were nut-heads and battle maniacs.

Daichi had a strange fondness for fighting strong opponents. He could sense who is strong and weak just by looking at one's build and fighting style. And as for Amaya, she was impatient.

She would start a battle with her strongest attack without even analyzing her opponent's moves. And after the first move, she would keep the opponents under pressure with barrage attacks.

It could just be her good luck, or maybe because her opponents were all weak, but these strange, unorthodox barrage attacks had always led her to victory.

"Let the battle begin!"

"Mudball!"

As soon as the countdown ended and the battle started, Amaya made the first move with her most potent attack.

This time she wasn't planning to use it as a smokescreen to confuse her opponents. Instead, she was going to attack him directly with them.

For that reason, the mudballs that she created were up stadium's concrete instead of ground soil.

"Full muscle Enhancement!"

Daichi's muscles became at least three times larger than how they usually looked. They were big enough to tear the uniform around his shoulders and chest.

The eyes of women in the audience, who were fond of bodybuilders, sparkled at the sight of his muscles. They stood up from their chairs and started cheering while glaring at his giant figure.

He paid no mind to them as he had no time to focus elsewhere. As a matter of fact, he detested those who were too attracted to his body.

He moved his right foot backward and held his ground as he punched the incoming mudballs one after another, breaking them into pieces. It was an extraordinary display of raw strength.

Amaya was surprised, in fact, shocked since he blocked her most decisive attack just like that. Never before had she seen anyone counter an attack of this level so easily.

However, she quickly composed herself as she had to come up with her next attack. She knew that every moment she was wasting would give her opponent the time to counterattack.

"Rock shower!"

As she used the spell, the concrete blocks were divided into hundreds of small stones that started floating around her.

Right when Daichi pushed the ground and tried moving forward, she fired all of them towards him.

The stones were coming towards him at great speed. Because of that, Daichi was hit by a few of them even before he could activate his shield.

The shield that Daichi used was a stone shield, also made up of the stadium concrete. However, he had used his magic to enhance the hardness of the concrete.

It was a general class technique that could harden most materials out there on touch. It was mostly used with blades and other sharp hand-to-hand combat weapons, but it could also enhance the performance of physical shields in battle. However, it was rarely seen being used this way because the shields were seldom used in modern warfare.

With the help of the shield, Daichi avoided most of the rocks while moving forward. A few hit him, but because of his enhanced muscles, he could resist the pain and damage they inflicted.

Amaya was somewhat confused as she started thinking about what to use next. She didn't expect there to be anyone who could counter her spells this efficiently in this tournament. But there someone was, resisting her attacks and charging towards her.

"Rock Prison!"

As she activated the spell, Daichi's feet were trapped within the cement blocks.

He realized he had come within the range of her ground manipulation abilities, but when he found that out, it was already too late. He had already been trapped.

That wasn't the end of her spell, though. As soon as his legs were trapped, four pillars appeared around him. He smashed two of them using his fist, but the remaining two were able to bind his hands.

"Not so strong now, are you?!"

Even though she didn't express it, Amaya was relieved that the spell worked. If it hadn't, she would be in big trouble.

However, right when she was trying to follow up with another attack, she heard Daichi resisting the binds. And before she could even ask herself, 'how?', he smashed the pillars binding him.

Following that, he freed his legs and dashed towards Amaya. His movements were loud as his steps could be felt throughout the stage.

From that point forward, and for the first time, Amaya had to go entirely defensive.

She created several layers of shields to block his punches, but none of them could stand his attacks. And not before long, she was completely cornered.
