The years passed and the children were now teens or adults. The finest hunters in the world. The best being a woman named Calina. She was of the Phoenix emblem. Her friend, Darin, the Lion emblem. Their parents who passed away were well known hunters and they were to continue their legacy.
As Darin grew his hatred for the monsters did too. Revenge on his mind. But Calina hated it. She never wanted to kill. She never wanted to fight. Yet she had to become a weapon, a monster as well. One of the deadliest ones. She would warn the vampires of other hunters, only killing in self defense or out of fear of being caught showing mercy.
She was only eighteen at this point. Darin twenty. She sighed and sat with him, curled in a ball. "I can't do this anymore..." She said. She teared up. Darin held her close. "I know... but it's for the best of our country..." "DOING THIS MAKES US NO BETTER!!! ALL WE ARE DOING IS KILLING IN COLD BLOOD!" She got up and left.
"CALINA!!! WAIT!"
She ignored him and went away from his sight. She remembered it so clearly. The fangs glistening with blood. The scent of death in the room. The sound of flesh tearing. And by someone she trusted of all people. But she knew that person felt regret.
The tears that filled their eyes. That pain of doing the duty of their king leading them to betray someone they cared for. A child they treated like a daughter. The fact that they hugged her crying and saying, "please... don't forgive me... but forgive the king... he's lost... I-I was not... I made this choice like a coward."
The fact that she still trusted them and clung to them. Her heart torn in pieces. Her mind broken. She snapped out of it. "Forgive him..." she sunk to her knees and cried. "But how can I forgive the one who is the reason I'm suffering... the reason I'm a monster, weapon... I..." she kept crying.
Darin found her asleep from crying. He carried her home and sighed, kissing her forehead. He couldn't take her being in pain anymore. His eyes glared, more determined to get her out of this mess.
