A tall, dark and slender man peered down into the streets from the glass window of the top floor of the 25-storey building. A knock was heard and a few seconds later, a tall young man walked into the office and stood a few meters away from the man at the window. His dark brown eyes swept over the office and the man.
He cleared his throat to announce his presence but all he received was silence. He stood brooding over his next move when a velvet voice filled the room, "Well, Yun?". It crawled from the windows and up the eardrums of Yun, making his hair stand on ends. This voice was icy, filled with nothing but malice and all who heard it cowered in fear. As an assistant of this man, he had learned that silence and aloofness was the only way he could avoid being eaten up by the eerie power in the voice.
"The CEO of MACE arrived this afternoon , sir". He waited for a response but since there was none, he continued, " A meeting will be held on Monday to discuss details of the collaboration, but prior to that, she'll be throwing a party on Saturday to get aquainted, you are invited sir, and so are the Parks, Acquahs and the other elite families". "Have you conducted any background check on her? Mace is a really complicated company, literally anyone can be brought out here as the head. David Scott is a highly intelligent man and knowing him, there are probably strings attached to this collaboration. Tell Joel to get me her details within the next ten minutes".
"Yes, sir", said Yun as he turned to exit. "Yun, any news of her?" "Unfortunately not, sir". With a curt nod, he exited the office and left the man at the window to continue staring down at the streets. Thirty minutes later, the entrance to the office swung open and, another young man burst into the office. "What have I told you about barging in? ", growled the man still standing at the window. The atmosphere in the room seemed to drop and this increased the pace of his heartbeat as fear engulfed him." I'm sorry bro, geez. Do you want me dead?" " It depends. Did you get what I asked for? What took you so long?" "Yes, I did and it's quite a lot to process actually".
This peaked the interest of the man. He turned to face Joel revealing a smooth chiseled face with dull but piercing hazel eyes. He bathed in the rays of the setting sun whiles his brown hair was highlighted by the light. He moved over to his desk and gestured that Joel do same. "You were right about something being wrong. Macaria Adams literally does not exist. Her identity has been secret for years and the only time she'll be ushered into the public will be on Saturday. Even the media in Hampton have no idea who she is. They're just unaware of the existence of a Macaria Adams. She's no relative of Mr. Scott though, so it's either they're trying to double-cross you or she's his heir... You know he had no heir right?"
"That is a lot of information, thanks". "Oh my gosh, did you just thank me? Hannibal Kane just thanked me? What is up with you today?", yelled Joel in surprise. This exclamation only caused the mood of the man across him to darken. He frowned and uttered in a deadly low voice, "What did you say?" It was then that Joel realized his grave mistake, "I... I... I... I'm sorry, bro. Happiness got the better of me". This caused Hannibal to restrain and only warn Joel, "You're lucky you're by best friend". Joel could only sigh in relief, to ease the tension, he struck small conversation, "So...how are things with you and Tai going on?" "The usual".
"You want to get away from her, hahaha" laughed Joel. The glint in Hannibal's eyes was not a good sign so he quickly ran to the exit. Seconds before closing the door, he looked back at the man who called him "best friend", shook his head and left.
