While Gabriel was away, I crawled and leaned right over Leif to see if he was still breathing.
Bad idea, Leif chose that exact moment to open his eyes and grabbed me to his chest in a deadly bear hug.
I screamed down into my belly looking for the current but all that was left was weak static. I had already discharged all the voltage stored up in my muscles.
My arms and legs had no strength and I crumpled under his renewed attack. Leif fell on top of me, pinning me to the ground as he pulled a bronze knife.
He pushed off of me, raising his knife high over his head. He paused for a brief moment. I thought he wouldn't do it, but I saw his eyes harden. He brought it down directly over my heart.
I closed my eyes, preparing for the inevitable.
The knife made a dozen of pinging noises as it shattered and scattered off my skin. He had just a moment to register what had happened before a foot connected with his head and sent him flying off of me.
