Chapter 4 - Stupid Hair

Ouch!

Who the hell placed massive stones in her pathway?

Cathryn's toe just hit the sharpest edge, her vision blurring with unnecessary tears as she groaned in pain. Fuck it.

"Well, well. Aren't you a clumsy, pretty thing?" He said, offering her a hand.

That voice... deep and raspy and just roused from bed, as perfect as his face and body she just can't take her eyes off it.

As people buzzed around them--the females staring at him in open-mouthed wonder, the males giving them a wide berth--Cathryn tentatively accepted his aid.

Could this be more embarrassing?

When Cathryn gained her bearings, she realized he had tugged her forward suddenly and they were only a few inches apart.

Her smaller height placed her gaze right at his hard, solid chest and her mouth watered once again as she imagined painting those Chinese dragons in his body.

Concentrate.

Cathryn raised her chin to look him in the eye but suddenly, she just couldn't move her head freely.

Ohmygod shit just got real.

Cathryn's red hair, her red, VERY CURLY hair, got stuck on--not just one--but three of his shirt buttons. She must be blushing beet red right now.

"Do you ever comb your hair, love?"

Cathryn shut her eyes tight and clenched her fists. Fuck her life.

Well, at least he didn't sound disgusted by her not combing her hair. Merely amused.

Cathryn was the type of person who didn't have time to comb her hair and when she did, she didn't. She left it like it is. What's the point of combing curly hair? It doesn't get any straighter. Plus, Cathryn takes a bath every day. Her hair is squeaky clean.

She was blabbering, isn't it?

"Yes," Cathryn whispered honestly.

"Well, your hair smells good." He leaned down as if he intended to share a secret with her then, he proceeded to smell her hair. "You smell like strawberries. Which just happens to be my favorite."

His thumb traced her bare arms and a shiver slid the length of her spine. He was flirting with her wickedly. Cathryn tensed as alarm bells rang in her head.

Does this guy want a hook-up at this time of day? No, no, no. Isn't it too early?

Though she had no desire to flirt back--really-- she forced herself to say, "Wow. Already we have something in common."

One thing Cathryn knew about men, they were likely to help a woman if they thought they'd get something in return. "That's my favorite thing, too."

That put a surprising sparkle in his amber eyes. "Isn't this just my lucky day, then?"

He tipped her chin with his long finger and his eyebrows knitted together in confusion. He just figured out that her hair got stuck on his shirt buttons.

Oh, wonderful!

The guy was an experienced flirt but didn't notice things very quickly.

"Umm. Could you possibly help me untangle myself from you?"

As Cathryn stared up at him, his smile took on a wicked edge, knowing and sure.

"Baby, once you tangled yourself with me, there's no way out of this mess."

Cathryn suddenly didn't know what he was talking about. Was he referring to her hair or some other things?

"Perhaps." Maybe he was referring to her hair. Cathryn's shoulders slumped, having no other choice but to this.

Cathryn could hear the announcer calling for the Henna Tattoo Contest participants in the background as she thought of her next step.

She placed both her small hands on his massive chest as Cathryn regarded him carefully to see his reaction.

"I've got a proposition for you."
