"State your name and business kid" a guard clad in black and armor appeared seemingly from nowhere.
"Jean, I have no surname sir" it was the bare truth Jean originally was a nomad as was his father, after his father's death Jean took to working in the town's.
"surname or not kid what's your business on base" the man appeared to be growing more agitated and with the sword he carried on his hip Jean didn't feel like testing his patience.
"sir, I've come for the exam I wish to become a member" trying to put on a show of confidence. "I was..."
"skinny" cut off in the middle of his explanation by a tall blonde wearing a embroidered white and red robe that seemed to be made just for her as it clearly made use of all her curves.
The guard quickly reacted and bowed deeply "lady Sasha it's an honor" Jean looked at the guard in confusion. The guard however showed only reverence towards this lady Sasha and no other clue.
"what is your name child" Sasha said sharply as she looked at Jean.
"Jean my lady, I've come to join the task force" he responded with hesitation quite curious of this woman and why he's being called a kid so much.
The woman the started to walk straight towards Jean with inhuman intensity in her eyes. "task force? do you know know our name" she stopped only a few paces from Jean "who am I kidding they never know"
curiosity kept growing in Jean even in face of such a stressful situation until he had to spear. "who are you are what are you talking about?" he declared it a somewhat demanding voice.
The woman however showed a small smirk at this and squared herself to him "we, are The Shield Order!" almost yelling the words "I, I am lady Sasha the keeper of the region."
Jean realised then his mistake his stupid mistake and bowed deeply "your ladyship my deepest apologies" hoping he hasn't been as foolish as to ruin his chance at even seeing the test.
"It's Lord keeper if you need to know, being called ladyship is an annoying title and I will hurt you child" Sasha said flatly "Jean you will need a surname, Jean of pines will be your name and you will pass the test or I'll punish you for the insults" showing a absolute void of emotion she then turned to the guard "What is your name"
"Kado of eveton, my lady" Replying with a hint of fear now. "Kado, sponsor Jean here if he fails you will as well" the she vanished.
Jean unable to understand what just happened was left with his jaw hung open.
"If you don't close that I'll be wiring it shut barked Kado, be quick now let's go."
Jean was running thorough what he thought it could be when a inhuman grip seized his wrist and started dragging him towards the gate. As they neared one of the doors started making clunky sounds as if it was a ratchet soon it slid into the wall giving Jean an idea of just how big this gate was. it would take the length of height to touch both ends.
"what kind of nomad has never seen a spell or a machine?" Kado asking calmly
"a what? and how did you know I was a nomad" nomads travel often so they usually have features that separate them from the usual natives.
Jean resembled the majority of people in the region brown hair with brown eyes even his rough masculine complexion matched with the commoners. "it's your personality, the townsfolk prefer the quiet life it's why the order is idolized we protect the quiet life here." they began to near a large rampart.
"Where are we" Jean suspecting that the compound was really massive.
"The armory, you're going to need gear for the exam" Kado produced two items from his satchel. One was a ornate amulet and the other was a small grey badge.
At fifty paces a guard stepped out of a small wooden shed built on the side of the rampart and began walking toward the two of them.
when he neared Kado displayed his amulet. "he's a recruit and needs a set of gear" at Kado's words the guard simply nodded.
"we came by some leather armor this morning. Needs some cleaning but it should fit the boy" then the guard positioned himself on the opposite side of Jean. after the exchange of words they continued towards the rampart.
