"I saw him," She began excitedly . Turning to her mum . "He was there."
"Who was dear?" Her mother inquired, glancing up from kneading the freshly made bread dough.
"The Pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow." The ten year old Etienne explained.
Maw laughed, brushing back a piece of hair that's fallen lose. "You have such an imagination my love." She said. "He hasn't been around in years. Is most likely dead."
"No, I saw him," She determinedly replied. "THE CAPTAIN- Jack Sparrow. He escaped the noose."
The elder woman shook her head with a sigh. "It sounds like him I suppose," she said, glancing at her daughter as she spoke. "He pulled many a stunt like that back in his day."
The little girl smiled, a wishful look in her eyes. "Someday I am going to be just like him. I'll be captain of my own ship and sail the seven seas."
The mistress of the house widen her eyes slightly in distress . "Oh no Etienne," She rebuked. "That is not what we women of this house do. Only outlaws do as such."
"But why? Women should be able to have adventure and fun too." She mumbled, going to her room.
*********
That'd conversation she had happened over seventeen years ago. Now here she was, a bottle of rum in hand as she stood at the wheel of The Miner. Sword on her hip, and a tricorn hat rested on her head. She'd accomplished her dream and goal...
But had it been worth it? She thought, as she had to leave her home and family behind. And she missed them, though it had been her choice to leave .
"We're almost there Capt'n." A voice said, breaking her trail of memory.
She nodded. "Aye, get ready to weigh anchor then." Etienne commanded her crew. Soon, her orders were put to work.
After the ship had been rested in the harbor she walked off and into the busy streets of Tortuga. "Definitely no place for a lady." She could here mother's voice remark in her head.
She smiled slightly , walking into a tavern . Hand fingering her pistol, eyes gazing about there room. As she was looking for a certain someone.
Going to back of the room she sat down, waiting as long as she would have to . Ordering a drink and a bite to eat as footsteps and a voice was heard behind her.
"Ah, Etienne! I'd knew ye'd be around here somewhere. Ya just can't resist me." Jack Sparrow exclaimed with a grin, swiping her rum.
She smiled a little as he took a drink, nodding . "Aye, I got yer shipment too." 'Twas her reply .
"All of it?" He asked , raising an eyebrow .
"Course," She said, retrieving her bottle again . "Why, didn't trust me?" She added with a grin.
"No," He stuttered slightly with a small smile. "Just want to make sure me ship is properly stocked with rum an' drink before sailin' off again. Ye know how crew can get an' meself without. Trust me, ya don't want to see that again ." Jack added with a shudder.
She chuckled, downing the rest of the rum she had in her hand. "So do we still have our deal? I help you on this 'venture in payment for the risk it took to smuggle your shipment past British borders?"
He nodded in agreement. "Ye help us find whatever it is we be lookin' for, you get some in return an' you'll be finally a real official pirate because of it love." Sparrow said with a grin as they walked out the door.
Yes.. She thought with a smile as they set off. It was worth it. She had a ship, crew. Sparrow's help.. and she was about to get rich should they succeed . Life was definitely good and on her side .
"Ready to set sail into the horizon?" Her companion and Captain of The Pearl questioned with a small smile. Interrupting her thoughts.
"Aye." She replied, gazing out to the sea. Yes, yes she was.
