I struggled to sleep. All I felt was the cold of the freezing floor rubbing against my skin. I turned on my side as an attempt to at least find a position where I wouldn't feel so exposed to the world. Being as, I didn't have a blanket to cover my body. The fact that my mouth was dry just made me even more uncomfortable.
I decide to get a glass of water to get rid of my thirst to help with one thing at the very least. I steady myself off the floor slowly standing up. This was very painful but was necessary.
I look around me and I see the other children within the orphanage. They all looked defenseless and frail. Some are even worse than me. I open the door of the dwelling we are sleeping in as softly as possible to not wake any of the other kids or the head mistress of the orphanage.
I carefully walk out of the room and through the hallway being as quiet as I can. I start to get the feeling of uncertainty as I see a small light in the corner of my eye and turn my gaze to study it.
"Who's there?" A small voice tried to reach out. It sounded as if they were tired and almost as if they were too weak to even stand they practically sounded like me.
I walk towards the light and the voice to get a better understanding of who or what it was.
"A-Answer me...?" They started to sound even more scared as I inched towards them.
I speak softly to help calm and reassure them. "Shh, it's alright. I won't hurt you."
I saw the light fade away as well as the scattering sound of tiny footsteps running away.
I try to talk to them once more before they left. "Wait! Come back!" There was no response.
I try to shake off what had just happened but, I couldn't. 'It's not worth it' I had thought while I started to walk towards the kitchen to forget about that strange occurrence.
I pass by a mirror and glance at myself. I sigh softly as I stare at my pale complexion. I study the thin frame of my face, the dullness in my once vibrant brown eyes, and the greasy mess of my black hair. I walk once more, trying to forget what once was... as it was the past. The present is now, whether I like it or not.
I finally reach the kitchen. I turned my head to the cabinet that held container as I reached for it, eager to get ahold of a cup. I open the door of the cabinet and grab a plain clear plastic one.
Once I pour the water into the cup. I dart my head behind me getting the chilling feeling of someone's eyes watching my every move.
I chug the water to get out of the kitchen quickly and shake this creepy feeling off.
I start to walk out of the kitchen but I look behind me to make sure there wasn't anyone following me.
I tip toe through the hallway as I take a pause and look where the mysterious child had spoke to me. I sigh and try to forget about it once more.
I quietly open the door of the room once again. As I walk into the room I stare into the window above my bed. I squint my eyes slightly and I could see a face staring directly at me.
I jump back into the door in surprise and fear. Doing so made me slam the door shut which echoed throughout the room. I start to panic as I see some kids sit up and stare at me confused.
"I-I'm sorry!" I panicked as I ran to my sleeping location and wrapped my arms around my head to cover my embaressment. I heard mumbles of the discouraged children that I woke up. I close my eyes trying to get some peace from everything that is happening. I heard footsteps coming from the hallway heading towards our location.
I grip onto my hair calming myself from what is to come. The door clicks as a tall feminine figure stands in front of the doorway.
"What is the meaning of this noise!?"
