Chapter 1 - Prologue

It's the start of June! Yay!

But that means...I HAVE TO GO BACK AT SCHOOL!

Oh well. Guess I'll have to start packing up again. I've got work to do. I need to sort out my books, notebooks, folders all all that school-related whatnot.

My name is Kylie, I am 13 years old and I am about to start high school. That seems great, right?

I slowly walked up the bathroom to look at myself at the mirror, while contemplating the meaning of life, like I always do. In front of me was my reflection, with my long black hair and almond-shaped eyes. Strangely, I actually look good today.

After eating a hefty amount of breakfast, I picked up my phone and called my friend, Martha. She was my only friend throughout elementary school. She was quite talkative and annoying, but she was always loyal to me.

"Heyya Martha."

"How are you?'

"I'm fine. Excited for school?"

"Umm...sort of? I'm kinda new to high school."

"Am I the only one who genuinely enjoys school? Every kid this generation seems to hate it."

"I think so. You're so smart. You're the only one who will actually enjoy it."

"Really? I thought everyone liked it."

"What class are you the most excited about?"

"Math. You know how enjoyable it is to manipulate numbers in your head? Acts like a brain stimulant to me."

"Hahaha. Of course you'd say that."

"Anyway, I've got preparing to do

And yet somehow...I still feel empty. Maybe I can do better this year.

------------

It's currently 3 o'clock in the afternoon. While I was doing my usual routine of surfing the internet, I found a piece of paper lying on the table. I was about to throw it out when I see writing in it. It read:

"I shall revolutionize the world. With math. Yes, math. I don't want any stupid classmates this year."

I sounded extremely rude and stupid when I read that. When did I write it? Seems like I wrote it about a year ago...

I was suddenly reminded of a local news article I read a month ago. It said our school had the lowest grade average in math. I ripped the newspaper afterwards.

Maybe I'm on to something here.

-- Principal's POV --

I am inside my office. It was hot, since the air-conditioning was broken. Me and my fellow teachers are talking about last year's school surveys. This is very important as it helps us assess the general performance of the students.

"So our survey here says that math is the least popular subject?" someone angrily shouted.

"Yes, Ms. Liberty, and it always has been" I said.

"You're not taking this seriously enough, Mrs. Heavens! If our students grow up without knowing the basics of multipli-"

"I know, I know! But we are not forcing our students to like math. They can like what they like!"

I looked closely at our survey. It seems only one student thought that math is their favorite subject. One. Out of about a thousand of them.

"So what now?" Ms. Liberty scowled.

"Only one student genuinely enjoys it. That's it." I said.

"I'm honestly worried. The student's math grade average is dropping. The government will shut down our school if this continues!"

"Alright, I'll help."

Both of us walked out of the room.
