Synopsis
It's a day after New Year's Day, and Jin Kaishi, a college graduate in his twenties is applying for a full time job. After being considered "painfully average" from every stage of his life, he has decided to make his life perfect and more unique. But after working for a month, Jin encounters a catastrophe. He left work to go home and apologize to his manager the next day. But when he wakes up, he loses all his memories of January and it's suddenly the day after New Year's Day again! What happened? DISCLAIMER: I don't upload consistently, and would like to humbly apologize for it. Expect only a few chapters or less in a month. The introduction to the story is also a few chapters long and quite boring, and I would like to apologize for that too.

Chapter 1 - A New Day

2nd January, 2031

6:00 a.m.

It was like any other Thursday morning. The birds chirped outside as the sun rose above the horizon. The rays of sunlight seeped through windows, shining onto beds and waking up youth and old alike. The roads were snowy but the sky was clear, the temperature a chilly 5℃. In an apartment block, the windows of a room were open, the winter winds blowing through, swaying the curtains.

The cold air of the new year seeped through the open window, waking up a young man who's alarm just went off. Slowly, his arm threaded from inside of his blanket over to the clock, hitting the snooze button before getting out of bed. The black haired man walked towards the window, shivering slightly before closing them. Yesterday was New Year's Day, but instead of celebrating, he was worrying about a job interview that he had on the next day.

The man had spent the last month or so studying about interviews, how to answer certain questions, how to not stumble on his words while he spoke, how to appear friendly and approachable without sounding too informal, so on, so forth. After all, finally he would have a full-time job and be able to support himself without working only part-time. It was a new year, a new start, a new beginning.

And just who was this man? His name was Jin Kaishi, an average, 23-year-old college graduate who had just landed himself an interview with a job he had always wanted. Jin wasn't anything special, he was just an average man with an average education, an average height and weight with an average life. But one thing that certainly was not average was his determination. After twenty-three years on the planet, he refused to be dubbed as "painfully average", he will get a perfect life, no matter what it takes! He just had to! Not only for himself but to make his parents proud!

As much as he himself was very average, his room certainly wasn't. He had large windows which had light blue curtains with stripe patterns that hung above them. The walls were painted with a slightly off-white colour to not be an assault on the eyes. In one corner which he had just raised from was a single bed with dark blue sheets that had a star-covered pattern along with a single pillow on the head of the bed, with the exact same pattern.

Sitting next to the bed was a white drawer, on top of which had a fake potted plant, his alarm clock and a mobile phone. Opposite the bed just under the window laid a white study table, a single drawer underneath it with a table lamp, a tin of stationeries and a few books on interviews laid. Opposite the foot of the bed was a wardrobe, which sat next to a bookshelf just beside it. The wardrobe was filled with different clothing, at least a set for each occasion. The bookshelf was riddled with comics, novels, guide books and figurines. The man did take a liking towards these little things.

The floor was a simple wooden floorboard, typical of the houses then. All in all, the whole room was cozy and tidy, minus the mess on the study table and the bed which was just recently used. As Jin was finishing his internal cheering of himself, he shivered, the cold temperatures getting the best of his lightly-dressed self.

Cold.

Jin whispered to himself before walking out of his room. As usual with his daily routine, he grabbed a set of clothes from his wardrobe first and foremost before turning on the only heater in his small apartment room and going to the bathroom. Teeth brushing for two minutes, gargling mouthwash for one, flossing for another and then showering for fifteen. Changing into a new, more appropriate set of clothes, namely a red sweater and black sweatpants, he walked out of the bathroom and prepared himself some breakfast.

Something heavy to start off the day.

It was something his parents always told him. Have dinner lightly, eat lunch till you are satisfied and then eat breakfast like a king. Something about health benefits, at least, that was what he was told. Jin opened the fridge door, pulling out eggs, ham, sausages, mushrooms, a tomato, a block of cheese and a stick of butter. Then from his pantry a loaf of sliced bread and a can of baked beans. Finally he would prepare his silverware and cooking utensils. A fork, a knife, a spoon, a large plate, a smaller one and then a cup and saucer. A cast iron skillet and a spatula

The man shoved his cup into the coffee machine and a few slices of bread into a toaster, going to cook while the coffee dispensed and bread toasted. He wasn't the best chef, but he did receive praise from friends and family for his take on the English breakfast, which meant it wasn't exactly English anymore. Cutting the ingredients, preheating the pan, a slice of butter, frying the eggs, ham and sausages. Out goes the three, in comes a halved tomato, chopped up mushrooms.

Onto to the plate the food went, the toast stacked on the smaller one with a small slice of butter. The beans out from the can and onto the plate with the rest, its old home meeting the trash. A slice of cheese with the bread and then he set it all on his kitchen counter, placing the ingredients back where they belonged, throwing his pan and spatula into the sink. And as if on queue, the coffee was complete, letting the man grab it from its place and taking a nice big sip of his morning drink.

It wasn't a lie that Jin lived a decent life with only minor struggles, but soon he will no longer need to rely on cash from his parents and part time jobs, not after today. With a smile on his face, his eyes would close as he clapped his hands together.

"Thank you for the food."
