Chereads / When Time Comes / Chapter 4 - Guy Named Youngjae

Chapter 4 - Guy Named Youngjae

I step inside my first class and wander my eyes to search for Taehyung. I smile widely when I see his figure, leaning his head to the armchair. He glances at me when I sit beside him, giving him a smile but he looks away. I knock the armchair to get his attention but he doesn't give any response

"Taehyung," I call him to get his attention but he just looks at me vacuously.

My brow raises when he doesn't respond with a smile or a quick nod. What is wrong with him? I asked myself. I choose to ignore his manner, thinking that he's in a bad mood.

After half a minute, the professor comes inside the room, wearing a wide smile on his lips before greeting us. My eyes focus on my professor but my mind keeps reckoning about Taehyung. My intuition tells me that he's been avoiding me since the kiss we'd share last week.

'I should probably ask him after class.' I sigh as I thought to myself.

"Miss Jeon, you are spacing out! I've been calling you like 10 times!" My eyes wide when hearing Mr. John yells at me. Immediately, I stand up which causes my class to laugh.

"I'm sorry Mr. John. It wouldn't happen again." He rolls his eyes.

"Okay but next time I wouldn't tolerate that kind of behavior. You can sit down, Ms. Jeon. Can anyone know the answer?" I slowly sit down and release a sigh and look down, trying to hide my embarrassment.

After class, Taehyung walks out of the room without looking at me. I walk out of the room to catch him up.

My palm clasps on his wrist to stop him from walking. He glances at me and his ocean blue eyes don't have any hint of emotion, just a stern look. My eyes wide when realizing that my palm clutching his wrist and immediately remove my hand around it.

"What do you need Minsoo?" He asks me while crossing his arms.

"I...I... Why didn't you tell me that Mr.John called me?" I ask, striving to control my pitch.

"It has nothing to do with me when you didn't listen to Mr. John and it's my fault." He says and walks out but I stop him.

"What is wrong with you? I thought we're okay but now you act cold towards me. Did I do something wrong that could upset you?" I ask him while looking down.

"We are not friends so it's nothing to do with you Minsoo. You're close to my friends and Jungmin's sister BUT that doesn't mean we're a friend." He says in a harsh tone.

He gives me a quick glance before swirling over and my eyes follow him walking away. My heart feels a sting to his harsh words. He doesn't include me as his friend but what about the scene last week? The kiss? Is it nothing to do with him? Am I an easy person? I bit my lips as I saunter out of the hallway and go to the grounds.

There, I see students playing football and another group of students flirting with the player. I sigh and sit on the grass while getting my sketchbook and pencil out of my bag. I try to sketch random things but nothing comes out, it's just Taehyung, running inside my head.

"Why are you so cold to me? It's unfair!" I exclaim while hurling my sketchbook along with my pen beside me.

"Woah! Easy there Miss little tiger." I look behind me when hearing the voice and glare at the person.

"Ohhh. Feisty!" He chuckles.

I snort out and hug my knees.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to upset you." I nod without looking at the person.

"Can I sit beside you?" I respond with a nod.

"I'm Youngjae from literal arts." I glance at him, seeing his smiles while offering a handshake.

I just give him a smile and look away without bothering to accept his offer.

"Minsoo," I mumble.

I look at him taking a deep sigh and my eyes roll when hearing his loud exhales.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Nothing, just relaxing and letting out some stress. You should try it out." He says with a smile.

I roll my eyes at him.

"Just do it! It will help promise!" He mutters excitedly.

My eyes close, heaving a deep sigh before letting out the exhales.

"How does it feel?" I just smile at him.

We sit on the ground silently.

"I actually saw you sulking so I think that I should talk to you and try to comfort you."

"We are just met today. Why does it bother you to comfort me?" I ask.

"It's who I am? I don't know. Enough about me. What's wrong? I saw that you are really sad. Is it because of the guy a while ago?"

"How did you know that? Are you stalking me?" I ask as my eyes wide. He shakes his head vigorously.

"I saw it when I came to my locker. I didn't mean that way!" He looks away—scratching his nape while chuckling.

"Okay, I believe you." I grab my sketchbook and pencil to place inside my bag.

"So are you going to tell me what's wrong with you?" He asks.

"Well… He doesn't look at me as his friend which hurts me. I thought we would be friends and I assume things." I mention while looking at the bright blue sky.

"Maybe he has a reason, he doesn't see you as his friend." He spoke. I looked at him. His beautiful face hits the shaded sunlight

"It could last longer if you take a picture." He says, teasing me. I smack his shoulder.

"No, thank you," I reply.

I retrieve my things and ready to walk away but it stops me when I feel a grasps around my wrist.

"Where are you going? I'm just kidding." He answers with a smile.

I sigh and sit back down.

"Why are you trying to talk with me? It's not like I don't want to be friends with you but it's odd. Most of my classmates don't bother to talk to me or acknowledge me as I approach them." I implore and doubt inside me since I'm alone.

"I don't know the reason. I just want to be friends with you." He answers with a smile on his lips.

"Fine. We are now friends since I don't have any." I smile at him.

He retrieves my bag as he holds my hand, helping me to stand.

"Where are we going?" I ask him.

"Since I don't have class in the afternoon. I thought I should take you somewhere to have fun. Do you have class?" I shake my head.

"Great, let's go."

"Okay, but I need to inform my brother before going out." He nods.

We wander to other buildings, where mostly Jungmin's class is held. My eyes land in Jungmin's room but I stop when there's Taehyung sitting beside Jungmin.

"It will be okay. I'm here beside you, " I nod, agreeing to come inside and get Jungmin attention.

They all look at me and grin.

"MinMin. What is it? And who's with you?" He asks. I look at Youngjae to grab his arms and pull beside me.

"It's Youngjae, my friend. Ohh… My brother Jungmin, and his friends Daewool, Mingyu, Seojun, Minseok, and Taehyung."

They glance at him and nod.

"Nice to meet you Youngjae. I'm glad my little baby got a friend. I'm so proud of you Minsoo!" Seojun says while hugging me and faking his tears.

"Seojun, you sound like my mother. Anyway, I'm here to tell you that I will be late home so you don't worry about me." I reply.

"M…Minsoo. Where will you two go?" Jungmin asks.

"Outside, park, I guess. Youngjae will decide where we will go since he's a citizen here, right?" I ask him when realizing that I don't know about him.

"Yes, I'm resident here so you don't have to be bothered. I will take her back safe and sound."

"Are you sure? I don't want you to get hurt." Jungmin said as he grabbed my shoulder tightly. I tap it to remove his hands to my shoulder.

"Don't worry, I will be fine." I lean to Jungmin and give him a quick peck. I found Youngjae's wrist and grab it before walking out of the room.

"Do you think my brother overreacted?"

"I don't think so. You are his brother so it's a natural instinct to be protective." He says as he opens the car door. I walk inside before closing the door.

"Where do you want to go?"

"Anywhere would be fine," I respond.

He nods and starts the engine before driving to the destination.
