Chereads / Loving Lisbeth Salander / Chapter 44 - The Boy Next Door

Chapter 44 - The Boy Next Door

My birthday last night didn't went as horrific as I thought. I hate to admit that Mark makes everything about my life feel better but he really does. He seems like a dumb-rich guy at first sight until he comes into your life and proves you wrong.

"Is it true you're moving?"

I sighed, pushing my notebook back to my bag. "Yeah."

"Sweet! We can have a place to stay at now!"

I shot her a glare. "It's just a room, not a fucking apartment."

Han laughed out loud but she bobbed her head either way. "I'm kidding! Y'all can stay at my condo whenever you want. My mom's money isn't running out any time soon."

Spoiled fucking brat. "I need to go. I'm moving today so go fuck Hunter if you're so bored and not bother me." I stood from my chair to step out of the room. I hear her yell something but I was too uninterested to listen so I just left her without any response.

On my way out of school, I was actually looking forward to bump into Mark but to no avail. I was hoping he would help me move but then again, maybe he's finally doing things that matter more than me. Good for him, I guess.

I walked back to aunt Felicity's house and took a cab to go to Johnny's place. All my boxes couldn't fit the cab so I decided I'd just come back for it tomorrow. The moving can take a week. I don't need to do it in one day.

"Take all your boxes off so I can leave, kid."

I frowned at the cab driver. "I will, asshole!"

After removing all five boxes from the back seat and the luggage cart, the cab drove off and attempted to go over the small puddle that was near where I dropped off.

"Fuck you!" I yelled when it splashed a little over at my direction. "Dickhead." I said under my breath.

"Welcome!"

I turned and saw Johnny running out of the house to my direction.

"You're here! Happy belated happy birthday, by the way, leapling!"

"Don't call me that." I don't understand the point of his welcoming yell but it was annoying. He's too loud and if he keeps screaming like this for no reason, I'm leaving this place.

"Do you need help with your things? Is Mark with you?" He asked looking around for him but he wasn't with me like I wanted as well.

"I can do it myself."

Johnny declined and bent down to pick up two of my boxes from the ground. "Come on. I cleaned yours extra hard so Mark won't have any negative to say."

We both headed inside, and dropped my boxes on the second floor where the room I chose was located. Johnny left after he gave me the keys to the room and told me to go easy on the room. I wasn't really planning to change anything. That would only require me to do work and I don't like working unless I get paid.

There was a loud honk from a outside but I didn't bother looking. I had to unpack five boxes today and I'm not sure I'm not lazy enough to continue it tomorrow if I don't finish now.

"Mark Lee!"

Mark Lee?

I stopped putting clothes over the furnished cabinet that came with the room upon hearing his name. I shook my head and grabbed the other box of my clothes to continue working. I've finished unpacking my book collection. I chose this room for a reason. The other room had no shelves I can use so as much as I wanted to pick the room next to the girl, I had to pick the one next to this guy.

Knock. Knock.

I looked up to the door and saw Mark smiling with two boxes that looked very familiar. Are those—

"Mrs. Felicity said you told her you're coming back for the other six tomorrow?"

I stared in surprise.

He stepped inside the room and dropped the boxes close to the other boxes that I was yet to unpack. "I'll go get the others. You can stay here and do that."

After a few minutes, all my boxes were already on my room. Mark leaned back against the doorway, catching his breath and I was already on my fifth box. I never realized I had this much clothes until now. I should just fucking donate them at a charity or something. I don't use them often anyway.

I stood and grabbed my water bottle from my bag and threw it over his direction. He caught it. He always had great reflexes. "Fill it back up."

He smiled.

I proceeded back to putting my things all over the room when he suddenly choked. I frantically glanced back up to him and I instantly frowned when I saw his hand wet. "What the fuck are you doing? Are you using your hand?"

He gazed back to me, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. "I was too lazy to get a glass downstairs."

I frowned. "What do you need a fucking glass for? It's literally a jug."

He looked at the water bottle I gave him. "I…"

I shook my head in disbelief. "You're such a fucking dumbass."

I was two boxes away from finishing my unpacking when I decided to stop. I was too tired and already too lazy to finish. I'm almost done anyway and two boxes won't hurt to do tomorrow. I stretched my back in relaxation.

"Johnny's making dinner. Don't worry he said you don't have to pay for it. He said it's a welcome dinner for you."

I raised a brow but did not complain. I'm fucking hungry anyway. I stood and walked down the stairs with Mark. When we reached the dining area, Johnny was already preparing the plates.

"How's it going so far?" He asked.

"Great."

"Come on and sit. The tofu soup's almost done."

I sat across the kitchen where Johnny was wearing and Mark sits next to me. I looked at the full table – meat, cabbage dressing, salad, these all look promising dishes.

"Johnny's a good cook." Mark leaned closer to me, whispering.

"Great."

After dinner, I walked Mark back out to his car. He insisted that I should look after him the way he does with me and just dragged me out with him so I wasn't really walking him out voluntarily. I wasn't trying to stop him though.

"Go back inside now."

I crossed my arms. "You pulled me all the way out so I can send you home and now you're making me go inside?" He nodded innocently. "Suit yourself." I turned around to walk back inside, frowning when he suddenly pulled me back to his embrace.

"I changed my mind. You can go after this." I clenched my jaws in disbelief. When he pulled away, he smiled. "You can go now."

I squinted my eyes. I can't believe him. I really am dating a fucking baby.

"Am I too handsome for you to leave now?" He tilted his body to one side, resting his hand over his waist.

I raised a brow at him. Did he just say that? "No. No, you're not." I shook my head lightly as I looked over at his direction. "You still look like a horse."

He chuckled. "You like this horse though." He pointed at himself, wiggling his brows playfully. He's such a goofball. "You're not denying. That's a relief." Such precious goofball.

Sometimes he just does things that makes me question myself. "Don't be."

He shook his head, crinkling his nose as he smiled. "You like me."

I rolled my eyes. He just can't stop rubbing that fact in my face. If I knew he would do this, I wouldn't have just said anything but then again, my actions were already speaking for me, he would have caught on to it either way.

"You're really not denying it."

Why is he—

"You make me so happy, Forest."

Something about him makes me feel lighter like a drug. He bothers me a lot more than I anticipated – bother me in a good different way. For some reason, his innocence, his purity makes me want to protect him at all cost. I broke my rule once for a guy who was planning to break me and now I might do it again.

He's a risk I'm willing to take for the second time.
