According to the school rules, the points that would be awarded to the students during their test would depend on their performance. This meant that if you managed to complete a task in a satisfactory manner, your points might even surpass the students who took all three tests at the same time.
The written exam was just a regular exam. Even if you managed to get perfect points on the test, that is not considered as an outstanding performance. The written test was just there in order to give the "average students" something to rely on, while gaining points at the same time.
Outstanding students either choose an academy mission with a high rating, or explore the deepest part of the dungeon to get more points.
