Chapter 9 - What happened

I ran out into the field for Maya and rode past the barn incase anyone came looking for me. It started raining again. I didn't know what to do. Other than Maya, I couldn't really talk to anyone.

So far, just in this past week, has been an absolute roundabout. It started off horribly. Not being able to handle anything. Being alone and worried. Then I met Maya and that helped me quite a lot. I started feeling like maybe things would be okay as long as I stuck with Maya. I met Tyler and Olive. Things started going back around when I went to school. Was Julie really my friend? What if it's really just Olive and Tyler who are mean and not Julie? Not to mention the panic attack and slow classes and homework. Now I'm going to have to move away from everything? Everything. Including Maya. I can't do that. This week has been strange and I hate it. I hate it so much. Why can't I just go back to the beginning Twenty-nineteen. Back with my mom and my old friends. Would I ever have contact with them again?

I don't know what to do. Confused and upset. I pulled out my phone, and called Julie.

"Hello?" She answered.

"Hey." I said sniffling and wiping tears from my eyes on again.

"What's going on? What happened?" She asked making me think that maybe I'm right about the Tyler and Olive thing.

I explained everything that had happened theese past few months with my mom getting sick and moving. Everything about Maya and the barn. How I'd met Tyler and Olive and what they'd said about her then the rest of my day at school. I told her about what my dad had just told us and where I was now.

"Maya? What kind of horse is she?" Julie had asked, I'm thinking shes trying to help me get everything off my mind by asking about the one good thing right now.

"We think a throughbred horse. Or maybe a Cleveland Bay but more likely a throughbred."

"Sounds nice. Can I come over and meet her soon?"

"If you really want to, you can come now. You know where I am."

"Yeah, let me ask my parents." She replied. I heard muffled talking in the background but couldn't make out what they were saying.

"I'll be there in about ten to fifteen ish minutes. Okay?" I said ok and Id see her when she got here then told her I was going to sort through my thoughts so we hung up. I started thinking more about how I could stop this or at least prevent it. One thing was for sure though: I wasn't walking back into that s hook for anything. I texted my dad saying I was staying with Julie for the night and planned out where I was going to actually go tonight. Probably the barn but what if my friends went there? Hm.

"Hey Liz." Julie said hugging me.

"Hey. Maya's this way, over here." I said and started walkin towards her.

"She's so pretty. I love her light dark brown hair." She said letting her.

"Want to ride her? I can help you get on." When she was on, we started walking around the medium sized area we were in.

"Hey um, I don't know if you believe what Tyler and Olive told you but, I'm not like that. Yes something happened and yes, I was a bit rude to them but they did it back to me as well." She explained. She looked away from me and toward the mountains in the distance to her right.

"I don't. But can I ask what happened? They won't tell me anything and whenever I ask the switch the subject completely. Its not very subtle when they do, either."

"Well, it's a long story, but, we all met in fourth grade. They have always thought of me as a rich and spoiled brat and I have always known they have.We all avoided each other as much as possible other than the occasional dirty looks. One day, I finally decided to talk to them. I had run into them at the store and I had asked them why they hated me so much. They just said they only hated me because I hated them but I didn't. There was more of a reason. Is. There is more of a reason. I still really don't know why they did then." She paused thinking about how to continue.

"Is there more?"

"Yeah, when fifth grade started, we all ended up in the same class. They were clearly talking about me so, I called them put on it and told them if they had something to say then say it to my face or to shut up because it was rude and unnecessary. They called me out for being spoiled and 'full of myself' That's about it. Some other things were said and they think I get whatever I want and steal things from them but I don't. So ever since then, they've hated me and stayed away from me so that's that I guess. So there's my personal side of it." She finished.

"Oh wow. That's it?" I asked, not really sure what to say. I really thought it would have been something much bigger but no. Or, at least it's not from her side. What about their side? What do I really think of this?

Not being able to answer my own questions, I helped Julie off of Maya. We kept talking about what I had missed throughout the school year and Halloween plans. I told her I didn't want to go back to school and she told me to give it a chance and that I would get used to it once I was used to how many people there are in there.

We talked a bit more about horses and how thoroughbreds are supposed to be good for racing. Her dad works with horses at the fair grounds. She took a pretty big interest in Maya. It was nice to talk to someone who knew about horses and might be able to help me take care of her properly.

When she had to go, it was dark and I rode back to the barn and found some wood in the shed near the barn and started replacing the second floor and a stable for Maya. I used my jacket as a blanket and lay on the surprisingly comfortable chair that happened to be up there. It didn't take long, to fall asleep.
