Chapter 1 - Beginning of the end

You awake to find yourself covered in blood, gazing around the room you notice a dim light in the distance. Your head is throbbing, you reach up to touch it but you feel a painful squeeze around your wrist. You see that your wrists are chained to the wall.

"What is going on? Where am I?"

"Hello?" You yell. "Can anyone hear me?"

You hear footsteps above your head. Realizing that you are in a basement, you scoot your back tightly up against the wall. The footsteps stop for a moment, then you hear the deafening sound of a squeaky door.

"Someone is coming! Is it the person that put me here like this?" You thought to yourself. Your eyes dart around the floor looking for any type of weapon that you could use to defend yourself. You see nothing but blood stained sheets, and the cold wet floor. The footsteps grow closer and closer.

"I see you're finally awake. Shall we begin where we left off?" A quiet voice asks.

"What do you want with me?" You can feel your lips quivering, "where am I?!"

He laughs, as he steps out of the shadows you see that he's wearing a mask. It appears to be made of skin with nails sticking out of it. He is holding a hack saw in one hand, it's covered in blood.

"I- is that my blood? Is he going to kill me?" You think. You pull your arms out towards him him as hard as you can but the chains won't budge. You let out a sharp piercing scream but your throat is sore and it just comes out sounding like the door you heard earlier.

"Hold still baby, this will only hurt for a moment." They step closer toward you, "if you don't want to be quiet, I can start on your tongue first."

You shake your head, "No, please." You draw your knees up to your chest, "Listen, if you let me go...I won't tell anyone what happened..PLEASE!"

They laugh. "I don't think so."

"I can pay you. I have a lot of money!" You beg

"You don't have any money," they snicker, "Your daddy has a lot of money." "He will pay for you!" You break into a cry,

"I don't want to die!"

" it's too late for that." He kneels down placing the saw to your throat.

You wait for the moment of pain and death to enter your body, you open your mouth to let off one last scream in attempt to salvage whatever bit of life you have left.

"Hey! Are you okay?"

You open your eyes and see your sister shaking you by the shoulders. You raise straight up clasping both hands to your neck. You start to cough.

"Are you O.K?"

You nod, "just another nightmare, thanks for waking me up." You slide your fingers through your hair, "it gets closer every time I go to sleep."

"What does?" She asks, "the killer?"

"My death." You answer. "It feels so real..."

"Breakfast is ready!" Your mom yells from downstairs

"Skye, wait." You grab her hand as she turns tot he bedroom door, "Don't tell mom and dad that I had another nightmare please."

"What are you so afraid of?" She asked.

"I heard them talking about it the other day, and mom said something about how they should bring me to the doctor and put me on the sleeping medicine," You shake your head, "I don't WANT to sleep.."

"I won't say anything," Skye looks at her arm, "you can let go now. I need to go get ready for school. So do you."

You let go of her arm and watch her leave your room rubbing her arm. You throw the covers off of you and reach under your pillow grabbing your diary. This was an every morning ritual of yours. Something that you did before breakfast, before school, and before bedtime. You write everything that happened in the nightmare that you had, you close the dairy and slip it back under your pillow. You sigh as you stand up and stretch your arms up towards the ceiling. You see your wrists have a dark red circle around them.

"What the-" you draw your hands back to your chest and you study them.

"My dream.. my wrists were held by chains!"

You hear a gentle knock at the door and you hurriedly swipe your hands behind your back, "yes?"

"You're going to be late, if you don't start getting ready." Your mom turned her back and walked away. You slide your hands back in front of you and stare at them in awe. Your eyes dart to the clock on the wall, it read 7:30. Time to get ready for school, you rush to your closet and pull out a pair of faded jeans and a dark tank. You slip them on, rush to your bathroom and put on your favorite cologne. You hear the vibration of your phone from the night stand. Hopping with one shoe on, you reach down and swipe it.

Jax: hey, you won't believe who I just seen ;) grace just drove by and she is so much hotter than last year. She stopped to say hi, and was asking about youuuuuu!

You roll your eyes but break out in a grin

You: thanks for that update lol, I'll meet you out front in 10. We can continue this conversation later, dork.

You slipped the phone into your back pocket and raced to your sisters the bathroom to add a coat of concealer to the marks on your wrist. You slick your hair back with gel, and then grab your backpack in the way out of your bedroom door.

"Really?" Skye stood with one hand in her hip, "I took one hour to get myself ready and you took like five minutes and somehow you still look better than I do."

"I just threw this crap on," you swing the backpack over your shoulder, "you look good Skye."

"Not like Mr. perfect." You could hear her sigh and imagined her rolling her eyes behind you as you both made your way downstairs.

"There's my kiddos." Your dad took one last sip of his coffee, "listen, you should really do something with that hair Skye. I will be a little late tonight, I have a meeting at the office. Your mother already left, she won't be back until at least seven. Microwave dinners are in the freezer."

"That sounds like a great dinner dad." Skye said sarcastically, "that's what I look forward to eating after a hard day of bullshit."

"Skye!" He looked sternly, "please watch your mouth. Be more like your brother here."

"Who?" Skye laughed, "you want me to be more like Bruce here?"

"You could learn a thing or two from him. Better manners anyways." He winks at you, "you better behave yourselves at school today. No boyfriends or girlfriends!"

"Well you don't have to worry about that." You say, "there are none at our school that is even close to cute." You grab a piece of bacon off the table.

"Doesn't matter if they're cute or ugly, stay away from them." He grabbed his briefcase off of the island counter, "I love you both."

"Love you too." We both said.

You watched your dad walk out the front door before turning to Skye and shooting her a dirty look.

"You really have to be such a asshole?" You bits into the bacon still staring her down. "I don't know what your problem is this morning, but if you don't stop being a brat you're riding the school bus."

"I'd rather ride the bus anyways." Skye grabbed her backpack off the chair near the door, "it would be a lot better then sitting in the back of your car listening to you and Jax talk about how Grace is so hot and blah blah blah. You both make me want to puke!"

She turned and opened the door. Jax stood there with his hand up in the air in mid knock when Skye swung it wide open.

"Uh, morning?" Jax looked worried.

Skye turned and looked at you, "oh look, day one of the rest of our lives has arrived." Skye stormed past him. Jax turned to watch her leave and then fixed his gaze on you.

"What the heck is wrong with her?"

"No idea," you shrug, "ready?"

Jax grins, "I have a lot to tell you!"
