Opportunity tumbled across the ground before rapidly recovering. Utilizing mana to rotate back to her feet she slid to a stop. Ryolu changed into her human form and landed next to her. Placing her hands behind her back she warned, "An intangible foe, this is an uphill battle."
Resting one of her axes on her shoulder Opportunity wiped away some grime on her face, "Mana doesn't help with harming, my avatar passes through, and the only way to get her to stop grabbing things is to have something pass through her."
Grabbing her axe again Opportunity sighed, "It's been a stalemate."
"Immunity to things physical, but also mana? It's not often someone becomes intangible."
"Hey hey! I can hear you!", Yaulo teased.
Swiping her hand upwards Ryolu sent forth talons of poison. Yaulo lifted rubble from the ground and blocked the attacks. Yet one talon rotated from behind and passed through the poltergeist. This caused all the floating rubble to fall back down, but Yaulo otherwise remained unharmed.
The two kicked up dirt as they rushed Yaulo. Upon seeing such a reckless charge she laughed and raised into the air. Tiny pebbles and rocks spun as they were lifted and she fired a barrage of them forward. Ryolu countered by melting them with an acidic poison, several blobs acted as shields and a toxic gas rose up. Closing the distance the two began to assault Yaulo with a flurry of attacks!
Placing her hands near her mouth Yaulo acted shocked as their furious assault continued to pass through harmlessly. Crying out she spoke, "Ow ow! Stop it!"
Rotating herself to be upside down she suddenly sprang into laughter, "You can't hurt me idiots!"
With a sudden speed she raised into the air and extended an arm. Pulling backwards she began to life a large chunks of the ground. It shook as it raised upwards. Opportunity and Ryolu looked towards the ground, it was moving too slow be of any harm so what was Yaulo planning?
Opportunity flung her axe with enough force for it to become a blur. Sidestepping the axe Yaulo continued to life the massive chunk of earth. Raising it far beyond the ground. Outstretching her palm Opportunity called her axe back, and then noticed something happening to the lifted ground. It rumbled and out launched the Death Eater. Its massive jaws outstretched as it tried to swallow the two whole. Upon noticing the Death Eater Opportunity instead snatched her axe and charged towards Yaulo. Ryolu rolled her shoulder and summoned a large talon of poison. Pushing against the jaws of the Death Eater she managed to stop its ascent.
Yaulo complained upon seeing this, "That brainless idiot! He wasn't supposed to show just yet!"
Using the poison as a limb Ryolu wrangled the Death Eater free from the earth and threw it towards the ground. It flailed helplessly as it experienced the fall, and failed to recover. Slamming into the rubble and groaning with a horrific cry. Eyeing the pitiful creature Ryolu manifested into her dragon form. Moving her jaws agape she let forth a powerful dragon breath that pierced a sizeable hole through the Death Eater! It squirmed violently before twitching to a stop.
Snorting at the Land Guardian Ryolu turned her attention towards Yaulo. Usually when dealing with intangible foes you would use a form of magic. Ghost creatures weren't inherently uncommon. Just very few manage to reach this level of power. Slowly as Ryolu became more aware of just how dangerous Yaulo was proving to be, she climbed towards the realization that this isn't an uphill battle but rather a one to purely wear the fighters out.
A strong poltergeist, the only weakness she had was if anything passed through her she lost her grip on any physical object. Moreover any physical object of small size would stop being under her control if they were hit. The large mass of earth didn't seem to follow this rule, and Ryolu wanted to figure out why.
That was until something else caught her eye. A swarm of gargoyles and bats blotted the sky and were flying towards the main attacking force. She was to be apart of the anti-air force to keep the skies clear. If she was held up here that left only the two birds and Givale. The thought of letting her daughter fight the horde alone was not appealing.
Caught between two choices she found herself hesitating. Yet she didn't have to make a decision! In this moment of hesitation Givale roared above and down descended Akiol. Unsheathing Stars he swung towards Yaulo and managed to sever one of her arms.
Landing on mana he pointed towards the swarm of flying enemies, "You and Ryolu! Join Givale and take those out! That vampire is among them, so we're swapping here!"
Opportunity raised an eyebrow but immediately understood. Leaping back she landed on Ryolu's back and the two immediately took off. Yaulo reached out but paused in fear, her intangible self was just cut! Akiol shifted his stance and pointed Stars towards her. She stared at the weapon and at him, "Just how did you harm me?!"
Yes! The intangible ghost was harmed! Truthfully Akiol was unsure if he could harm Yaulo, and was mostly planning on holding her off to allow the Dragons to take on the flying enemies, but upon seeing his attack was successful he immediately shifted gears! Since the ghost was a soul without a body his Aura was capable of harming her! Two powers that stemmed from the soul!
Stars didn't shine under the light, his dark blade absorbed too much of the light to reflect anything back. Akiol's knees bent and he launched forward which caused Yaulo to float back in fear. Reaching her only remaining hand out she tried to stop the sword, but found her grip on objects was immediately severed.
She shot downwards and landed on the ground. Breath growing heavy, but not from pain or exertion but rather panic. Flying away at incredible speeds she moved towards the undead castle. Retreat! She needed to retreat!!
Flickering in front of her Akiol swung Stars, a gash forming across her neck. She held the wound and backed away with even more speed. Passing through the Death Eater she stopped, "You! Wake up already!"
The Death Eater shivered and sunk into the ground. It felt upset at what was occurring. The Death Eater held its own special ability as a Land Guardian, but was unable to utilize it at all in this battle! Upon consuming living beings it grew stronger, and was able to heal its wounds using those lives. Thus making large scale battles the place it excels at. However the few beings it managed to eat were immediately used to heal the wounds it was suffering constantly!
Yaulo watched as it returned to the ground threw a fit, "You big dumb idiot! You're supposed to help me! Not run away!"
Returning her gaze towards where Akiol was she felt her being freeze. He had disappeared. Turning around she found Akiol already within attacking distance. His sword a mere inches from stabbing through her. Out of panic she sunk into the ground. To this Akiol paused.
Poltergeists had their intangible selves able to pass through solid material. This included the ground beneath their feet. However Yaulo could not see when she passed through material like this. So by sinking into the ground she went blind, and very swiftly lost her sense of direction. Despite this she felt relieved to have gotten away.
By sheer chance she stumbled into a cave. Floating over to the center of the cave she rested to calm herself. It should've been impossible. There should've been nothing that could harm her! She was intangible!
Under normal circumstances the only way players would've been able to defeat Yaulo was to send a team to find the object she cared deeply about. Her anchor point to the world. Upon purifying this object she would've been defeated, her soul returning to the life cycle. Perhaps under different circumstances this is how she would've been defeated. It just so happened that Akiol's was one that specialized in attacking against souls. The power of his own soul, Aura.
She hadn't experienced taking any form of damage during her existence as a Poltergeist. Losing an arm had shaken her mentally and thus she began to rage. Rocks were picked up and thrown at the cave wall. She stomped about silently but did not dare to do anything more than this.
"Stupid! Everything is stupid! If it weren't for this stupid Territory the king would've wiped them out personally!"
As she finished this line of anger the top of the cave broke inwards. Akiol descended along with parts of dirt he dug up. Despite missing a majority of the fit Yaulo threw, he managed to pick up on her words. The King couldn't act while the Territory was up?
Yaulo froze in fear. She should've been deep underground! How was she found?!
