Chapter 169 - One Man Army

Travis quickly ran into the battlefield.

He asked Abe, "How will the guardian react to me?"

'Probably the same as usual. However if it senses that you're helping it then it shouldn't target you.'

"Got it."

Travis teleported in front of the guardian. Many players were startled by the appearance of the player. The guardian noticed Travis but didn't attack, for a tank nearby held its aggro.

Travis shouted, "Halt! You shall not attack this guardian any more! If any of you do so, I shall end your life here!"

The guardian swung down. The tank used a skill and reduced the damage they received. A player shouted, "What are you going to do?"

A player elbowed the one who spoke out, "Are you crazy?! Don't you see that mask?"

"You think he is Dot? Hundreds of players tried to be like him. What if it's another wannabe?"

"What was one feature Dot had?"

". . . The dot on his mask?"

"Idiot! The fact that you couldn't inspect his status at all! Try doing so on him!"

". . . Oh."

"Yeah!"

A player then spoke up, "So what? There is hundreds of us here, the general strength of players have risen. He most likely isn't the indomitable warrior that could defeat any professional player."

Travis heard this and spoke, "If any of you make a move, your corpse shall remain."

An arrogant player stepped forward, "There are tons of us here! What is a single player going to do to all of-"

That arrogant player collapsed. The nearby players murmured to themselves, "Is he messing with us?"

A player then shouted, "He's dead!"

Shocked voices filled the area. A certain individual shouted, "Move! Let me past!"

The tank dealing with the attacks complained, "Hurry guys, I cannot hold much longer!"

A figure moved to the front of the group. Travis raised an eyebrow, "Oh? If it isn't Four Turns! So it looks like Wyvern Tail is who I am dealing with."

The individual named Four Turns answered, "So you are now aware, why do you block our path?"

Travis answered truthfully, "By defeating this guardian you'll set off a series of events that could spell disaster for A World's Legacy."

"Why should I believe you?"

"You have no choice."

Four Turns scratched his head in frustration, "This is why I hate dealing with overconfident players. Are you aware of your circumstances? You're a wanted man from the top guilds. If word got out that you are protecting this place then the guilds wouldn't hesitate to gather."

"Then let them gather, they all shall suffer the same fate."

Four Turns sighed, "I warned you."

"As did I."

A voice shouted from afar, "Dot! You're a wanted man!"

Travis looked over to the voice. Thousands of players marched over the horizon. Travis was quite impressed, "Gathered forces quite quick. Were you waiting for me?"

Four Turns walked away, "I did warn you."

The thousands of players were lead by the Vice Guild Leaders of the various top guilds. Travis could name them all, but he noticed that Infinity Base wasn't here. Not that it was his issue.

He mentally asked Abe, "Can you do something about the guardian? They are going to be in my way."

'One moment. Done, I told them they should guard the portal. Since they have left it unguarded for so long.'

The guardian stomped back over to the ruin. Taking guard at the entrance. The Tank sighed in relief.

Barrel, the Vice Leader of Venturing Deities walked forward, "You caused us quite a bit of trouble. Are you prepared to pay your debts?"

"I owe nothing."

Barrel laughed, "Nothing? You dragged our reputation through the mud! Our professional players lost some fame because of you."

"I do believe Infinity Base has done worse than me. Yet it seems all of you cannot deal with them. . ."

This immediately ticked off the players. Barrel sneered, "Compared to an insane army, a singly player seems to be easier."

"You overestimate yourself. If a single guild can take you all on with a single advantage. What makes you think a player cannot?"

"There's a limit to everyone. Yours is smaller than a guild's."

"A shame it's another limit you will be unable to reach. . ."

Travis sliced the ground, the force from his swing formed a large straight cut between himself and the players, "We shall increase the stakes. If a single one of you pass this line, I shall slaughter you all."

"Ha! Arrogant! You cannot defeat this many soldiers!"

"Arrogant? No, this is simply a statement of truth. These soldiers of yours are mere flies, the only trouble they shall cause me is their corpses getting in my way."

Barrel sneered, "We shall see! Charge!"

The players unleashed a loud war cry as they charged forward. Travis remained still as he watched. He waited for a single moment.

A player's foot crossed the line, immediately Travis unleashed his War Sight. Many players died on the spot, those who had high enough stats to live collapsed onto their knees, struggling to get up. Very few remained standing, yet these few had trouble to move even slightly.

Travis shouted, "Well?! Where was that confidence? I didn't even raise a finger yet most of your 'soldiers' have been rendered useless! Now imprint this in your minds! Numbers do not equal strength! Anyone can obtain strength far beyond than what numbers can provide! This area is my territory! Those who intrude shall die!"

Barrel grit his teeth, "What skill is this? Such a large scale AOE weakening skill? Is the game even fair?!"

Travis stepped forward and vanished. When he reappeared hundreds of the surviving players had perished. Travis immediately became the top most wanted player. Every wanted player hunting headquarters updated his status. There a masked individual was shown, question marks for all his information. The only thing that wasn't question marks was the name. 'One Man Army' Dot.

All that were left standing was the guilds core members, and the Vice Leaders themselves. In less than a minute the thousands of players have perished. Travis walked over to the Vice Leaders, "I warned you, several times. Yet your confidence in numbers made you blind. The power of your guilds have made you unaware of the dangers that can easily defeat everything you own. Let this be a final warning. Do not mess with me."

Travis swung his sword, finishing off the remaining players. Flicking off the blood on his sword he took a breath, "That was easier than expected."

'That's because you're insanely strong! You haven't even reached the first stage yet you could easily contend with those who have!'

Travis chuckled, "That's because of my efforts."

Travis was well aware of what Abe meant by the first stage. Those who passed the 250 level mark are considered by NPC's as First Stage. Those who have reached such a level would have far more opportunities to grow stronger. Thus it was widely agreed that First Stage players were more dangerous than those who weren't. However Travis was a special case.

Travis looked at his level, only to see a series of notifications.

Travis already expected the first two. However the last one surprised him. When a player achieves a significant feat, they would be awarded with a title with various benefits. However there was another way to obtain a title, become a top ranked player in a certain in game event.

The difference was that events had set titles for those who ranked number one. The only difference was the PKer hunting headquarters. Those who ranked number one would be granted a title alongside their name. This title would also give bonuses.

The titles usually formed around how the player became the top PKer, for instance a popular one was Unknown Killer. Which provided extra damage and stealth bonuses whilst hidden.

Travis own title provided him with additional stat bonuses the more enemies he faced. However the effect would only take place when facing a minimum of 100 enemies. Even then the bonus is only 10%.

The bonus increased by an additional 10% for every additional zero added to the number.

For 1,000 enemies he would obtain 20% extra stats.

For 10,000 enemies he would obtain 30% stats.

And so on.

The title's benefits were decent at best, but he would take additional strength anyway.

Travis looked over to the portal ruins. He had done what he could, perhaps the event shall be delayed. Regardless he couldn't spend the rest of his time guarding the place. That wasn't his job.

Travis' eyes returned to his level. He was quite close to reaching 250. He would soon obtain the limit breaking quest.

Travis sheathed his sword and looked into the distance.

"I suppose it's time to become First Stage."
