Chapter 79 - Another Push: Fight!

Wrock read the notifications, half of the party had fallen. Wrock didn't look like he cared, yet this was his experience of not letting shock affect a battle. Inside he was confused and tossing around ideas. He wasn't sure if Akiol had the same luck as him. Perhaps he had to fight the large undead horde along with. Vertigo.

The whip cracked viciously near him, Wrock quickly shook the doubts out of his head. Akiol had lost, it would had happened eventually. However he had to make sure he didn't lose to.

Wrock weaved through the chaotic attack pattern of Carthino's whip. His health steadily draining. He had confidence in finishing the battle before the poison finished him. He was waiting for the buff to grow stronger. With Carthino is a berserk form the gap between strength had widened considerably. He needed to close this gap before attempting to finish Carthino off.

Another thirty seconds had passed, Wrock's buff increased to 325%. Wrock used this opportunity to shorten the distance between him and the boss. Carthino retracted her whip was soon as Wrock reached a certain point.

The contracted whip still had many spikes, it looked like a deadly bat. She swung this 'bat' at speeds even faster than the whip. Wrock had no clue how that was happening, yet he couldn't do much to counter it.

Wrock found an opening after five seconds of dodging. While the time seemed short, in battle of high speeds a lot could happen in such a small timeframe.

His fist shot forward, landing on Carthino's left abdomen. Carthino bent sideways from the force of the blow, leaving more openings for Wrock to take advantage of.

Wrock landed several blows in quick succession. Each blow carrying a power behind it that forced yet another movement for more openings. However after a small amount of time this tactic became useless.

Powerful blows tore the rotten flesh of Carthino. Her muscles became less connected, meaning her body wasn't being tugged from Wrock's strong blows.

This could be explained in a small manner, when a bow is drawn the limbs of a bow are bent back. This would no longer be the case if the string was snapped. Wrock's blows were similar to the drawing of a bow. Having used too much force far too quickly the string had snapped, and the limbs stopped responding.

This would also mean the body wouldn't respond to movements, Carthino was undead however. This meant she didn't have such a weakness. Carthino forcefully moved her body to swing at Wrock, these blows were dodged and Wrock continued his combo.

Another thirty seconds had passed, Wrock's buff increased to 350%. Wrock sent a powerful blow towards Carthino's already broken jaw. This lifted her off the ground slightly, Wrock used this to his advantage and unleashed powerful blows causing her to stay in the air.

This was normally called 'juggling' however not many players had attempted to do such a tactic in a virtual reality game. Those who tried mostly didn't succeed either.

Carthino's health was dropping a a decent pace, yet it wasn't enough. Wrock wouldn't be able to finish her at this pace.

He landed a kick on her back, sending her flying higher. He quickly joined her in the sky by jumping, his buff allowing him to jump higher than before. He let out a shout, "[The Beast's Roar!]"

The kick landed on Carthino's stomach. The shockwave ran rampant insider he body, destroying the already rotten flesh. Carthino crashed into the ground, unable to stand as the shockwave stopped any movements.

Wrock wasn't finished, a magic blue silhouette of a hawk appeared behind him. This was [Hawk's Descent].

[Hawk's Decent:

From the sky you swoop down upon your prey, you rule above and hunt those on the ground.]

There wasn't much description to the move because there wasn't much to it. This move allowed Wrock to fall at high speeds steadily, while doing extra damage. The game itself added the flashy effects.

Wrock's foot slammed into Carthino's face, after doing his damage he had jumped off of Carthino and backed up a little.

He had finished his combo, there wasn't much else he could do effectively with Carthino's current position.

A line buzzed towards Wrock. It had moved near instantly. Wrock had seen it at the last moment and moved to dodge, however the line still pierced through his shoulder.

The line was Carthino's whip, the undead herself rose from the ground laughing maniacally, "You thought you did something didn't you?"

Wrock attempted to yank out the whip, yet it remained strong. A notification appeared and Wrock frowned.

Wrock found he couldn't move his legs very well. He couldn't help but despair, he had done so well. What was with that almost impossible to dodge move?! He didn't know if it was the game skill, or his own lack of ability. All he did know was that he was in a very stick predicament.

Carthino's flesh mended together, she had fully healed and walked towards Wrock. She raised a hand and slapped Wrock hard, "That was for the kick."

<-200HP (Wrock)>

Wrock threw a punch towards Carthino, he wasn't going to stand there and take it. Carthino dodged the blow and slapped him again, "You haven't learned have you?"

Wrock was angry, angry with himself and angry at Carthino for using such underhanded tactics. Poison? It was a cowardly move.

Some more time had passed and Wrock's buff had increased to 400%.

"Tell me, what exactly was your plan? Your 'berserk skill' was indeed something needed. However I bet you weren't expecting it to lead to this were you?" Carthino prompted.

"It's to defeat you, didn't I tell you this?" Wrock replied curtly.

"Tsk tsk tsk! I don't think your talking in the appropriate tone. Your life is at my mercy, perhaps you should be begging to be spared?"

Wrock said nothing, his eyes shone with defiance. Carthino sighed, "It doesn't matter much, you are going to come with me to Orothus. He will turn you into a loyal undead."

Wrock's fingers twitched, he didn't know if that was true or not. He would much rather not be turned into a puppet.

"I need a good soldier. One I know can get things done. You match that perfectly, you even managed to fight me to this point. That's worthy of praise!"

Wrock was waiting patiently, it had almost arrived.

"I due hope you keep that skill with you, imagine the possibilities! So, I am going to offer you a choice. Become my subordinate willingly and I will lend you a decent amount of freedom. Or... you can become my subordinate forcefully. You will have no freedom and be forced to work for me forever. So tell me, what's your choice?"

Wrock's eyes shone brighter, the time had come. The moment Wrock had been waiting for was the five minute mark. His buff had reached the max of 500%. He forced his body to move, his speed far greater than before. His body had been strengthened to the point of forcing the poison out of his body. He was pulsating with power. However he had nearly died waiting for this point. The high potency of Carthino's poison wasn't to be underestimated. He had almost died by the time he had reached 425%. Luckily the buff forced the poison into submission. The damage was reduced to ash and he regained the ability to move.

Yet still he waited, until he was at full power. He wanted to show Carthino a taste of a stronger opponent and he planned to deliver.

His hand grabbed Carthino's face, he threw her away before vanishing from sight. When he reappeared he was exactly where Carthino had been thrown.

He continued to beat Carthino, she was thrown around and battered. Wrock planned to finished her off now and he would have. An inconspicuous undead mage lifted a magic barrier between Carthino and Wrock. Wrock smashed through this barrier easily, yet it meant his blow hadn't hit Carthino. Another undead had turned hostile, Wrock's extra skill had been eliminated. His buff was only 250% now.

To make matters worse, he only had ten seconds of the buff remaining. Carthino slashed her whip angrily, its speed nearly matched that of her berserk state. Wrock wasn't fast enough to dodge. The whip slashed his chest, leaving a nasty mark.

Wrock's eyes returned to their normal color, his aura faded until it disappeared. Dropping to his knees Wrock's eyes began to dim. Carthino watched this and remarked, "Look at you now, if only you took the deal. A shame really."

Wrock fell over completely his eyes lifeless.

Akiol looked at the notification with sad eyes. This meant only Kan'na and Jarvis remained. Akiol assumed that Orothus was stronger that his generals. As soon as he regained his original power. . .

Akiol looked out the window, this will most likely be their worst defeat.
