Chapter 49 - Emergency Quest?

Two weeks later. . .

Akiol woke up and stretched. He was quite excited today. He spent the last two weeks slowly grinding his way to level 100. Now he was less than 20% exp away.

During the two weeks of grinding nothing great happened. Besides a few mercenary groups still trying to claim the bounty. There was a post that the leader of Pierced Moon had created. It painted Akiol as the villain, however to Akiol's surprise. Nothing had happened. There was no ambushes, no players attempting to claim justice. He felt like something was off, but with nothing to claim otherwise he didn't find a reason to care. Perhaps it was just to save some reputation. . .

Akiol logged on and immediately went to do some quests. As the developers promised, reaching level 100 and beyond was going to be difficult. The highest exp reward he had seen for a quest was only 5%! Akiol had barely received 1% exp from a monster the same level as him. However this wasn't going to stop him today. Nothing shall stop him now!

He opened his status menu, intending to double check his progress.

Recently he had begun to stop putting as much points into defense. Since he was partially immune to damage there was no need for defense as of now.

So he decided to focus on the other stats. Speed was always something he liked, so agility had to increase. Strength was obvious, how else would he increase his damage? Dexterity was a bit on the questionable side. Players had made posts about the dexterity stat, not many knew what it did. The developers had to make a post about it to set the players at ease.

Dexterity differentiated between classes. For melee classes it could increase swinging speed, ranged classes their sight and accuracy. Additionally some equipment and weapons required a certain amount of dexterity to equip. Thus it was deemed the 'equipment stat', something many players invested in because they felt it was needed even if it wasn't too obvious on how helpful it was.

There was a a decently large debate on the media about this, many claiming it was filler stats and mostly unneeded. While others claimed to have felt the difference when they placed a large amount of reserve stat points into Dexterity. Thieves also posted images of certain daggers dealing damage based on Dexterity. Many discussions sprouted about this and topic about removing the stat arose, but nothing came to fruit.

Akiol wasn't entirely sure of the difference himself. Although he had placed a number of stat points in it he always felt his swinging speed was a limit of his technique and not the stat. There was various techniques he had learned that increased the ferocity of his attacks with no added modifiers to his strength. One such example was the {Apparition Strike} he utilized, where the speed was limited by his Agility, not his Dexterity. Regardless the statement regarding certain equipment requiring Dexterity guided Akiol to invest some additional points into the stat just in case.

Grabbing a quest he took a look at it, ranked C. His efforts and quest farming had made his rank rise to C rank. This played a major part in him reaching level 99 this quickly. Scanning the quest information quickly he devised a plan.

[Purge the Undead!]

A recent outbreak had occurred nearby, while not currently dangerous if left alone it could cause a major incident. Quickly exterminate or banish the undead.

Objective: Kill 20 Undead: (0/20)

Difficulty: C

Time Limit: 2 days

Reward: 3% exp, 60 gold, A.G. reputation points.

A.G. Stood for Adventurers Guild, it was a small addition due to the complaints of players.

Undead wasn't a hard foe to fight. The only thing was they had no weak points. To defeat an undead you had to attack them enough until their health dropped to zero. Of course holy magic was much more effective, however Akiol didn't have such magic. He was also alone in his quests.

When he arrived at the quest objective he found it was in a graveyard. Akiol honestly felt that it was bit cliché. There was even a small church at the end of it. Entering the graveyard he heard the groans of the dead. Akiol's previous world's undead were significantly scarier than A World's Legacy's. The undead hear were rotten and bone could be seen sure. His world's undead had not only rotten flesh and bones, but it was common for intestines to be showing as well. Usually they were dripping with a nasty form of blood. One thing that A World's Legacy had a one-up one was the sounds however. His undead's vocal cords were rotten and falling to pieces. So there was rarely any sound.

As he thought of the horrid undead one walked up to him. Akiol slashed it a few times before it crumpled to the ground.

Undead are usually attracted to living fleshy creatures. However since Akiol was a slime the only undead that attack him were the ones that saw him moving. As he slowly cleared through the undead he noticed something out of the corner of his eye. A skinny creature had crawled up into the church's campanile. As he saw this he did what any sane individual would. He turned and walked the other direction.

Akiol didn't know what it was, one thing he did know was that it was not his business.

Another undead came stumbling over to Akiol. After quickly dispatching it the church bell started ringing. With it a notification appeared.

[Stop the Lich's Uprising!]

The undead are attempting to resurrect a powerful Lich. If they succeed it could cause a major catastrophe! Do your best to stop it!

Objective: Kill the five undead summoners:

(0/5)

Time limit: 10 minutes

Difficulty: C

Reward: Great remuneration from the Adventurers Guild, large amount of A.G. reputation points, 15% exp, ???.

Failure: The Powerful Lich shall attempt an attack on all the towns!

This immediately grabbed his interest, the reward was incredible compared to the various quests he was doing. To think a great opportunity for something different has arisen just like that! Without hesitation, he immediately searched around the area. It didn't take long before he saw a large magic circle. There was five lines connected to it, leading towards different directions. Akiol quickly memorized his coordinates and followed one of the lines.

3 kilometers out he found a robed skeleton with it's hands raised. He couldn't help saying, "A very obvious undead summoner."

Surrounding the robed skeleton were several other undead. These ones were different, not as mindless as some of the skeletons he found wandering the undead area. They had equipment, weapons in their grips. Instead of walking aimlessly they stood alert, defending the undead summoner.

One that was holding a shield stood in Akiol's way. Akiol took a look at the time and realized that he spent one minute heading in this direction! Even if he didn't do a full sprint he didn't have time to tango with the armed undead. So he used [Leap] and dashed towards the robed skeleton. Quickly finishing it off he ran back towards the circle. He wasn't going to waste any time so he turned into the ball form and used [Roll].

As soon as he arrived back at the magic circle he turned towards another line and followed. As he arrived at the next robed skeleton the same scenario happened.

He repeated this another two times. This time when he arrived at the magic circle he realized there was something forming in the middle. When he checked the time he noticed he still had more than five minutes left. So he had no clue what was going to happen.

Akiol wasn't going to wait however. He made his way to the final skeleton. As he arrived there was something different. With the normal undead squad protecting it, there was another undead next to the skeleton.

Akiol quickly formed into his avatar and watched carefully. Something new added to a scenario wasn't appreciated. He still had a little less than five minutes to take care of the skeleton. So he wasn't too worried.

The undead noticed Akiol, instead of walking towards him like normal it simply grinned. Pointing towards Akiol it made a groaning sound and the squadron of undead marched their way towards Akiol.

Akiol simply leapt over the group and ran towards the skeleton. The grinning undead unsheathed a rusty sword. As Akiol swung towards it the grinning undead blocked. When the two swords clashed a notification appeared.

Wait a minute. . . a player?
