twelve hours. that's how long it took. 4,253.6 miles from Juneau Alaska, the only home I've ever known, to miami florida. from the only people I've ever known. Frome the same street I walked to and from school. looking at the dark grey clouds looking for a patch of the shiny bright blue sky. From all the memories, of sitting with my old best friends after school in front of the fire place. From laughing. Joking around. Smiling. To moving to a place, where I'm so pale that I stick out like a sore thumb. From a place that could only get up to around 57 to a place that can get up to 87 degrees and feel like its 90.
I stepped out of the plane. Right behind my mom as the heat rushed to my face.
"let's go get our bags" my mom says as we make our way to the baggage claim.
I watched Ll the different suitcases, looking for my own. I reach out as I catch sight of mine. i grab it and pull it will all my strength off the conveyor belt. I sit my bag on the ground and roll it over to where my mom stood waiting for me
"Ready?" my mom asked and I shake my head no. I'm really not ready. I take a deep breathe as I felt my body grow impatient of a nice bed to lay in. I follow my mom into a taxi to head to our new house. I closed my eyes and opened them right back up as memories appeared in my head. I sigh as the taxi came to a full stop infront of a modern looking house.
My mom opens her side of the door after paying the taxi driver and walked over to the trunk, grabbing our bags. I slowly unbuckled myself slowly making my way to where my mom stood. I took my suitcase from my mom's hands into my own, following my mom into the house.cool air hits by face as I follow my mom.
"I dont know if I'll get use to this heat" my mom says as I slowly take in what I see around me.
Dark hardwood floors. A staircase. white walls. I walk toward the room where I see the most sunlight.
the dining room which right behind it was the kitchen. the dining room had a huge glass door, that opened to the backyard and a patio. I open the door and step out looking at the or really my back yard that had a in ground pool, in the middle of the yard.
I head back in after looking at it and head upstairs to pick my room. This house had four rooms from what my mom told me. two master bedrooms which both had a bath room and two smaller rooms with a bathroom that connected them. I open the middle room which happened to be the second master bedroom. Automatically knowing it was mine. the room had two windows. one that looked over to the neighbor's yard and another that looked over the front yard. similar to my old room but with a extra window. I looked at the walls and thought of putting a code of paint over the white walls.
with my mom's help, I placed the bed in the middle of the room. Not touching any walls until I could paint on it and unpack my boxes. I laid on my bed thinking about everything as my eyes slowly fell.
"welcome to florida" I think as I fell asleep.
