I woke up to my sister shaking me excitedly. In our room we only had one window which was currently spilling sunlight into our room.
"Come on let's go ask Father" a big cheeky smile was on her face "you get to ask him I don't want to."
"Why don't you? You're younger and have puppy eyes."
"I'm plan b, if dad says no to you" Ruth said winking at me.
"Ok let's go , breakfast should be ready anyways," I pulled her out the door and down the stairs.
Ruth confidently pushed through the door and sat next to mom. She eyed me and mouth "sit down goof". I rolled my eyes at her while sitting across her and next to Father.
"Hey daddy, I have a question." I used my puppy dog eyes as he glanced my way "Can me and Ruth attend the ball this Friday?"
I held my breath waiting for his reply.
A big smile went across my Father's face, "Anything for my girls!"
Ruth and I jumped up at the same time and hugged our Father
"I guess you girls will want to go shopping?" Father held up a pouch of money and placed it on the table.
"You're the best Father! I love you!" Ruth and I giggled out at the same time.
"Come eat your food, I don't want it to get cold." My mother said while giggling at the scene before her.
We both sat back down and downed our food excited about the day ahead of us. Once I finished my food I raced up to our room to get ready. I soon felt Ruth's presence in the room. I picked out a grey dress that had had different layers, it was also covered in blue flowers. I had Ruth help me with the corset. Then I help her with her corset. Ruth had dressed in a simple white dress that had lace as the arms which stopped at her elbows. Ruth sat down at the vanity to put on some powders on. I walked over to the mirror that touched the floor. My ginger hair reached to my middle back. Those green eyes that were always filled with power and determination stared back at me. I touched my freckles, I never liked the powders they always covered up my freckles.
"You ready to go yet," I rolled my eyes at her.
"I was waiting on you," I walked over to the door "Which store should we go to?"
I already knew where she wanted to go. It was this cute little store on the corner of the main road in town. The older gentleman that owned the place was always super nice. Ruth grabbed my hand and pulled me down stairs and out the door. The store was not that far away from our house. I let Ruth lead the way as we chatted about different topics. We soon reached the store. As soon as Ruth opened the door the smell of cinnamon flooded my nose.
"Robert you here?"
A face popped out of one of the dressing rooms.
"Ah my favorite girls, you finally here to get your gowns for the ball?" Robert's sweet smile always brightens my day.
"Yes we are," Nick walked out kissing Robert on the cheek "Have any suggestions?"
"Do I! Ruth you get to go first," Robert led Ruth into a changing room.
I walked over to the small couch and sat down. In front of me was a small stage, the wall was also covered in mirrors that reached the floor. I heard the click of the door opening and looked up at Ruth's dress. She looked stunning. Ruth had on a light blue dress that was off the shoulder, the dress had lace embroidery all over the skirt. Ruth turned to face me and I saw that around the waist was a golden bow. I jumped up grabbing my sister's hands in my.
"Oh wow, that's the dress you look so good in!" She giggled spinning around with me.
"I got a sneak peek for your dress, it'll look so good on you!" She ushered me into the changing room.
I waited on a few moments before Robert walked in with my dress. I was stunned. It was gorgeous. It was off the shoulders just like Ruth's dress. The skirt had a small train behind it, every time the light hit the sequins it looked like the stars in the night sky. Robert helped me into the dress. I looked in the mirror, holy fuck that looks good on me. The dark emerald color of the dress made my eyes pop, and stand out. I walked over to Ruth, who was trying on heels.
"Damn we're gonna be the best looking ones there," she handed me a pair of gray heels "Here these would match."
We spent the rest of the morning dancing around the store in our dresses, Robert and Nick even joined us. I would miss moments like this once I left. After we changed back to our day dresses we departed back home.
