Chapter 39 - Be the flow

"What I can see in your element, is certainly disturbing. Born to the naturals like me, by forcing yourself to control the flow, you are no different from a child lost in the dark, unwilling to light the torch and just trying to manoeuvre by spreading its hands."

Looking at the situation normally, Fen could still perfectly perceive everything that was happening around him. From the bear-like beast instantly falling down on its knees and lowering its head, through the still motionless fire-elemental, all the way to the nearly naked fake body of this queen. Yet, at the same time, by focusing on this strange aura that was flowing to his head from that extreme monster's fingers, the young man could swear that there was a second world hidden beneath what his eyes could see normally!

As if he was standing in the middle of the vast ocean, the young arcanist apprentice could even feel its gentle waves rocking against his ankles, caressing the skin of his feet.

But as soon as Queens words resounded in his mind, a strange person appeared beside him. Without even a single moment of delay, this unnamed avatar conjured a simple paddle from the thin air and started pushing the water around him in one, particular direction.

"It's entirely possible to alter the flow by attempting to control it. Depending on the grade of your talent and control, the effects will vary as well."

In one moment, that strange man's paddle was the normal size, causing only the mediocre effect at the world around him. But in the very next second, his paddle suddenly grew in size, to the point where it was actually bigger than his body in the first place!

As that man's motions never ceased, the amount of water that he was capable of speeding up was obviously far greater than before. The very next moment, his paddle turned to be just a small fraction of what it was initially, instantly putting a change to how much this man could influence the flow around him.

"This is the representation of what you were doing so far. But it seems that you failed to realise the true magnitude of the element that you were dabbling in."

The moment those words struck Fen's mind, the entire image changed. No, that wasn't a good word. It was more like if the point from which the young man was watching this strange paddling man, suddenly rose to the skies!

Yet, no matter how far his sight escaped which was signified by the fact that this man's figure continued to turn smaller and smaller to the point where he wasn't even able to find where he was, one thing remained perfectly the same.

There was no end to the boundaries of the ocean itself!

But it all changed all at once. As if some kind of great disaster happened, from the corner of Fen's vision, the normally perfectly still surface of the ocean, suddenly it started to move.

This way of describing it was both the perfect and the absolutely worst fit. Watching from so high up above, the wave that appeared didn't seem like much. But just by knowing the scale, one could only imagine how devastating it would be once the point of view would switch to someone actually on the level of the sea itself!

"So by bringing the matter of becoming the flow, you want to tell me that the difference of power that I could influence by becoming the flow and attempting to forcefully control it, is as vast as the effects between that enormous wave and the punily stronger current caused by the paddle?"

That was the only reasonable point that those images seemed to bring. As for how one could achieve the state that the queen proposed, it was an entirely different matter. Given how hard it was for Fen to even learn the control without the helping hand of Draconis, the young man didn't really believe that reaching the point where he could become the flow just like the Queen advocated for would be as easy!

"Let's not push the boundaries so far. It's not like you will be able to control all the fires in the world just by adopting this technique… And to be frank, I don't really think you should do it any time soon. Seeing how your soul bears the marks of Draconis influence, I bet he wouldn't really like if I told you how to do it in the first place."

Retracing her hands, the queen took a few steps back while bearing with the intense stare from the young man.

"What do you mean by that?"

Initially, with how all those strange visions of his begun, Fen hoped that he would be able to learn something new and practical, yet from the looks of it not even this Queen of the local monsters was willing to make things easier for him!

But in all honesty, the most important part about what she said didn't lie within her explanation of the technique, but how she referred to the Draconis! Judging from her words, this god-like being still wielded some kind of influence over the real world, making even a monster as powerful as the queen consider what he wanted before they would make their move!

"It's still too early for you to learn about this. For now, you just need to know that your growth… Will leave a great mark on this world. I know that growing stronger in your situation seems like the only feasible choice, but…"

Queen's expression changed. Even though she didn't hide any of the fluctuations of her facial muscles, Fen was still unable to gauge what could be going through her cute head.

"While I won't discourage your growth, you need to keep in mind one thing. Every time you reach for the greater heights, the world will change alongside you. You will never be able to revet the changes that will happen once they happen. To be on the safe side, I will leave you with just a single hint."

As if the queen made up her mind, she stepped forward once again, placed her hands on the young man's cheeks and looked him deeply in the eyes.

"You have awoken your power exactly eleven days ago, about an hour before the sunset."

Saying those words in an extremely soft voice, Raksha still failed to soothe the sudden shock that reverberated through Fen's body.

'How can she know?!'

Capable only of asking this question at this moment, Fen barely noticed a simple wave of the monsters' queen hand, that resulted in the bear-like beast backing off.

"Now, would you mind letting go of my subordinate? I promise you that you will be met with no harm on your way back to your master. While I can tell you though he would just wait on the edge of the trees for you, from what I can see he is slowly starting to get impatient. Given what we talked about here, we wouldn't want him to discover that rather than killing each other, we just had a pleasant discussion, don't we?"
