Chapter 128 - A game of living chess (Pt. 1)

Mew and company quickly arrived at the throne room, where one man was calling if there were any objections to the girl on the platform being king.

Sora, one to love breaking parties up, yelled Objection. What followed were facts about the girl, apparently called Kurumi, working together with the elves. The elf in question was revealed to be in the crowd. Kurumi just scoffed, as the elf quickly ran out.

It all went on for a while and Mew didn't really get all the things that were said. It all ended up with a successful attempt at challenging Kurumi to a game for the throne. As Kurumi was the one being challenged, she chose the game, a game she said couldn't be cheated with with elven magic.

Moving towards the place where it would happen, Mew lounged in Shiro's arms. It was something he had come to enjoy, so whenever it was possible, Mew would be carried in someone's arms. In this world, it was apparent it would be Shiro. Shiro tightly hugged Mew as she rubbed her face against Mew's cheeks.

"Mew. Soft."

Mew giggled, rubbing against Shiro's cheek as well. This felt almost as good as headpats.

Arriving at a tower like structure, Sora glanced at Mew.

"This is a battle for Blank, so don't meddle with things, even if they cheat."

Mew nodded, giving a tiny salute.

Acting like that, there was no way Sora would believe Mew.

"No seriously, I mean it. Hands of this game. We'll play with you after this."

Mew's eyes sparkled, reaching out his finger, which Mew counted as a pinky.

[Pinky promise?]

Shiro nodded, intwinging her finger with Mew's little finger.

"Un, promise. Shiro and Nii will play with Mew after this."

Having gotten the promise, Mew swore to stay out of the game, even if they were cheating. Entering inside the room, Mew was certain they had cheated. He could feel the same magic signature coming from inside the room they were about to enter.

Once in the room, Sora looked curiosly at the game laid out in front of him.

"Chess?"

There were big chess pieces standing on a game board below them.

"That's right. Each piece has a will of its own, give them an order and they'll move. Regard them as your own personal army."

Kurumi explained, as she was standing at the side of the black pieces, while Sora and co stood at the side of the white pieces.

'Muuu, cheating baddies.'

Mew could feel the magic signature of the elf coming from the chess pieces.

But, as Mew had promised, he didn't intervene with the game.

It might be interesting after all. The chess pieces were human sized, while also looking slightly humanoid.

"Alright little sis, I'll leave this to you."

Sora stepped back, letting Shiro take the spotlight.

"Leave it to me! Chess is just like playing a game of tic tac toe."

Giving a cute little pose, Shiro took her spot. At the side, as judge was overlooking the game, making certain there weren't any cheating. Sora had even managed to make the game a two vs one, as he claimed he and Shiro were as good as one player. Shiro seemed a bit unsatissfied.

"Why, do you think I'll lose?"

Sora shook his head, explaining this game might be different than they were used to, so it would be better if they both played the game.

Accepting that way of reasoning, Shiro took her place.

"I'll let you take the first move."

Kurumi said, while both groups (Kurumi, Sora and Shiro) raised their hands.

"""Aschente!"""

Like that, the game had started.
