Chapter 7 - The Education of a Powerful Soul

[Deja, you have arrived]

Deja opened his eyes to see a long line of people who looked about 4 years older than him, leading to the entrance of a tall group of towers. He walked up to one of the older students, and asked:

"Umm, excuse me, is this the way to the Sonus Enclave Academy?"

The older student turned his way, looked down, and sneered.

"A brat like you is probably to weak to get into Sonus. Why don't you scurry home to the bumpkin village you came from. Sonus is a highly Prestigious academy of magic, what made you think you could get in?"

Deja sighed. He turned to the person behind the rude student and asked him if this was the right line. The other student confirmed that, and even offered Deja the spot behind him.

"Sorry for my brother. Ever since he awakened basic status at age 12, he seemed to have gained a superiority complex over others. I truly am sorry."

"No, no need. I'm used to those who think they are superior to everyone."

'After all, I worked as a white-collar office worker for 16 years.' Deja got in line behind the kind student and asked:

"Excuse me, Can I have your name?"

The student turned.

"Oh sure! I am Harfyr Daefiel, and this is my brother Engrin Daefiel. What's yours?"

"My name? Deja Voss."

The line slowly advanced, taking close to three hours for Harfyr, Engrin, and Deja to make it to the front.

"Next!"

"Yes Sir!" Engrin walked towards the examination. He placed his hands on a little crystal ball, and it glowed fairly bright.

"Mm. Pre-awakened basic status. You might be one of the strongest this year. You pass."

Engrin cockily strutted past Deja. As he passed, he whispered;

"Good luck twerp. That was my full magical power. I doubt a country bumpkin like you can even generate half the power I did."

Harfyr walked towards the crystal ball and placed his hands on it. Being at the front, Deja noticed a few magic arrays surrounding the ball, seeming to draw mana out, and serve as spell detection.

'Shit! [System], can my skills be detected by a spell detector?'

[Since they are technically skills instead of magic, no]

'Oh thank god!'

The Examination director passed Harfyr, and waved Deja on.

"Name?"

"Deja Voss."

"Oh! So you are Mr. Voss. Go on ahead, the Headmaster is waiting for you inside the gates."

Gasps rippled through the crowd of students. Deja was one of them. He recomposed himself, smiled and bowed respectively to the examiner, and proceeded through the gate. Passing through it, Deja finally got a better look at Sonus Academy. The main campus seemed to be similar to a university campus back on Earth, with brick and mortar buildings making up most of it, however, on the four corners of the campus there were tall towers; red, blue, orange, and white with similar glyph labeling written on each.

'[System], what do each of those glyph towers say?'

[The rightmost tower has [First Year Training] written on it, and the left most has [Fourth Year Training] written]

'What about the other two?'

[Based on what is written on the two in view of Deja, System guesses they are second and third year training towers]

Deja grinned. Training towers! According to his last few years of schooling, a Training tower is a place rich in mana, meant for training ones aptitude for magic. He didn't know if he would need to use it, given his already immense magical power.

----------

Deja wandered around for a bit, looking at the campus, until he ended up in front of the Headmaster's quarters. He knocked on the front door and waited.

About a minute later, Deja heard pounding footsteps moving quickly towards the door. The door was flung open by an older man, probably in his late 60's or 70's. The man was wearing a flowing white robe, with bright blue accents on the shoulders and near the creases. With the wind blowing, Deja got a good look at the inside. Dark blue magic arrays were inscribed within it. Deja called out to the man;

"Look down here."

The man looked down. Noticing Deja, he smiled warmly and beckoned Deja inside.

"So you're the prodigy Deja I keep hearing about."

"Yes sir. I may be young, but I believe I have nearly mastered the the first tier of magic."

"You have?! Thats wonderful! So, what is your magical aptitude?"

"Aptitude?"

'[System], what is aptitude?'

[It is the type of magic a mage is most proficient in. A person more skilled in healing magic will become a Healing Mage, while a person more skilled in combat magic will become a combat mage]

'So what am I?'

[Deja is an {Unknown Mage}. You have no aptitude, because all types of magic are balanced within Deja, due to their skill {Spell Library}]

'Ah'

"I don't know my aptitude. I have always felt like I am better at combat-type spells however."

The headmaster seemed to be a little surprised.

"A combat mage!?! At your age? Thats incredible!"

Deja was surprised at this reaction. He thought a combat magician would be the most common type, based off his years as an otaku on earth. But with the adverse reaction from the Headmaster, it seemed that his belief was wrong. The Headmaster turned to Deja.

"Hey, can you show me your spells? I may be the Headmaster, but I am not a combat mage."

"Really? What type of mage are you then?"

"Defensive."

"Ooo! If I show you my spells, can you show me yours? I am very interested in different kinds of magic other than combative types."

The Headmaster chuckled.

"Sure. I guess that's a fair trade."

The headmaster lead Deja toward the door. The door swung open, letting in a bright light, and they stepped through it to the outside. The area outside was not well kept. The grass was overgrown, and the asphalt was cracked. The headmaster rolled up his sleeves, and a grayish aura surrounded him.

"Welp. Time to get to work."
