Weeks had gone by before Morgianna finally decided it was safe to go back to perform a mission. However, on the day she had arrived to pick one out, she found there was a letter waiting for her. The sender was none other than their own Crown Prince, requesting to meet her personally to thank her for getting rid of the necromancer. She could only scream internally as the sent him a letter informing him that there was no need to thank them as they did not do it for him.
She should have known that those two nosy boys would use their connections to find out information on her, and now her job was compromised.
"Should we join a different guild?" Alnwick sat beside her in the carriage as they once again were on their way to pick up a mission.
To his question Morgianna could only shake her head. "No if we left now they would think that we are running and it would only make them more curious. Plus I did not spend years working my way up through this guild only to throw it away because of some nosy children. Everything should be fine." Right after she said the words she felt a chill run down her spine as if she had just jinxed herself.
Myra sat across from the two of them admiring her sharp nails, her green hair framing her purple eyes. "Why don't we just kill them? I mean then they wouldn't be a danger to you later on."
Outside of the carriage Fafnir snorted at the woman's direct approach. "Should I tell her, or are you going to Morgianna?"
"If we kill them we would basically be waging war on their kingdoms. Also in case, you forgot it is the Crown Prince of pretty much every kingdom. That would send the world into mass chaos, which is what I am trying to avoid. They may be nosy, but I cannot move against them at the moment." At Morgianna's words, Myra blushed. She felt dumb for not thinking it through and suggesting such a thing, especially since Fafnir was the first to point it out.
She looked away and mumbled under her breath. "Sorry."
Morgianna couldn't help but smile, the old Myra would never apologize for anything. "It is fine, trust me if I thought about it myself a couple of times." She said it jokingly trying to lighten the mood.
They still had a couple more hours of travel and she did not want to sit with a moody basilisk.
...
As usual, when they arrived in town they first made a stop at The Sleeping Giant. Claudia had long since guessed their profession but they paid well and never caused her trouble.
After changing they dropped out the window as usual and made their way toward the guild, keeping out of sight. They had purposely arrived at dusk so that they could head over as it got dark. Seeing as how they had nosy people looking into their identities they were extra careful to not be seen.
Taking the long way around they finally arrived in front of the building, surprised to see more people than usual in attendance they crept up to peer into the warm room.
"And I'm not leaving until she gets here." A voice Morgianna recognizes instantly sounded from inside.
Killian stood behind his counter, his scarred face not looking impressed in the slightest by the two boys standing in front of him. The one that had spoken was none other than Thadeous, his bright red hair catching on the dim lights and making it look like blood.
Beside him stood Alistar, he was surveying the room as if looking for something, or someone.
A bad feeling crept into her being. She could already guess who they were there for.
"I told you no, we do not give out personal information about our members. Now leave." Killian leaned forward his massive arms bulging against his shirt.
It was as Killian said this that Alistar caught sight of a red hood. "Thadeous, door." Those two words caused every person in the room to turn in her direction.
She wanted to run but instead raised her chin and calmly walked in. She tried to ignore the stares as she made her way to the mission board and began to survey her options. Behind her stood Fafnir, Alnwick, and Myra like a wall, but still she felt eyes burning into her skull.
The whole place was quiet, so when Thadeous and Alistar began walking her way she heard every step. "Hello, I was wondering if we could speak with you." Alistar began talking in a calm manner but was watching her for any sign she may disappear.
"Not interested. Take your boyfriend and go." Her words caused an uproar of laughter to erupt throughout the room. Even Fafnir was having difficulty holding it in.
For a slight moment Alistar frowned but then quickly put a smile back on his face. "I assure you that we are not that close. I already have a LADY I am interested in so the spot in my heart is already filled I'm afraid."
Morgianna wanted to snort at his words. "It seems I was mistaken." Allstar was about to speak when she continued. "However, it still stands that I am not interested. If you have a mission post it, if not leave. This place is only for guild members."
Thadeous who had been watching their exchange gave her a lopsided grin. "It's a good thing we are guild members then."
Caught off guard by his words she looked to Killian for conformation and felt her last sliver of sanity shredding when the scarred man nodded his head.
She sighed and went back to trying to pick a job, it seemed she had underestimated these two and their need to figure her out.
Alistar and Thadeous watched as she practically ignored their existence. They were not used fo girls not throwing themselves at them even at their young age. Soon they would be teenagers and yet grown women sometimes even hit on then.
Feeling their eyes glued to her head Morgianna huffed and tore a random mission from off the board. Trying to step away she found that there were two preteen blockades in her way.
"Since we are all part of the same guild, how about you show us some pointers by letting us tag along on your mission." Thadeous was shameless in his question but knew they had to work fast in getting to know her or she would run off again.
The whole room was silent as they waited for her to answer. Over the years her fellow guild members had seen her drop more than one of them on their head if they got too rowdy. They also knew how she had completed some missions they would only dream of taking on. Impatiently they waited to see what she would do to the two trying to corner her.
Bending over at the waist and wrapping her arms around herself people could see her shoulders shake. Fits of laughter burst from her mouth as she tried to contain them only causing tears to form in the corners of her eyes. Everyone was shocked by her reaction but did not dare move. To those that knew her all they could do was wait.
After finally calming down she wiped her tears from the corner of her eyes that was still hidden under her hood and stood up straight. The whole room dropped in temperature as she tilted her head at Thadeous and Alistar. "Then as a senior guild member let me impart some wisdom. A rabbit that is chased will bite the hand that reaches for it, but a scared wolf will eat you alive. I will be sure to send a letter to your parents telling them where to pick you up. Buh bye." Though she said the last part in a sing-song voice, her face was emotionless. She had no time to entertain children.
Her group walked past them as if they were not even there and both boys quickly found out that they were frozen to the floor. "Release us!" Alistar gritted his teeth and glared at her departing figure. He tried to use his fire on the ice but found that he could not melt it no matter how long he worked.
Looking over her shoulder Morgianna looked at the two boys who had different emotions playing on their faces. Thadeous seemed to find the whole thing hilarious while Alistar seemed angry at the former. "Don't worry I'll release it once we are gone. The second lesson is not to follow strangers, which I am 200 percent sure you would have done if I had not stopped you. Tsk tsk, kids these days. Also I won't tell your parents this time, but try it again and I'll personally deliver you to your kingdoms with a big pink bow on your heads." Her threat made both boys stop moving a stare at her in earnest.
Momentarily they bad forgotten that she knew who they were. They felt the truth behind her threat and nodded their head. Pleased with their acknowledgment, Morgianna strode up to the counter and placed the mission face-up no longer looking at the two boys who never took their eyes off her.
"Killian, I will be taking this one." She read the title and hummed in happiness. It seems she at least got a fun mission out of all this. After she was done she and her group left quickly, not even bothering to speak to anyone else.
Killian sighed and walked over to the frozen boys and as if on cue the ice around their feet shattered. "I told you that you didn't want to meet her, anyway welcome to the guild." With that he passed each of them a nameplate and walked away leaving both boys staring in the direction that Morgianna had left.
