Chapter 2 - A Coincidence

After that night on the bus with Alex, we did not speak further and I decide to resign from the restaurant.

I found a new job at a hotel restaurant and was getting along well with my colleagues.

"Maisy, this evening, you will serve tables 1-5, remember the guests here are mainly house guest, other than taking orders, you need to Ensure you label the orders according to the sitting arrangements so that the servers can served in the right sequence. You must also occasionally check with the guests on the food and make sure that their needs are taken care of, ok. Before we start serving, please make all preparations and we begin in an hour."

The restaurant is in an open courtyard, though the guests are from the hotel mainly, but public can walk along the walkway to get passed the building to the next.

I was busy making preparation for the tables I am in charge, walking along the walkway toward the kitchen to collect the utensils, I heard "Hey Maisy, is that you?"

I turned round, surprised to see Alex. He was wearing some sort of uniform.

"Hi Alex, how are you? It's been a while!"

My heart raced as I saw his smile, this is the 1st time since I knew him that he smiled.

"Why did you quit so suddenly and left without telling anyone? I know the guys were trying to call you but you did not answer their calls as well. Is everything ok?"

I gave a weak smile, "Yes, everything is fine, since I have a 6 month break before starting college, I decided to get a higher paying job to earn more pocket money. So a friend brought me here for an interview and they needed someone to start immediately. So I took the offer since it is paying 3 times more than where I was."

"Are you still feeling sad over what happened with him?" Alex asked cautiously.

"I am good, this job and the other part time job that I am taking, keeps me busy from morning to night, I have no time to think about anything right now. I am happy now!

True, I didn't have much time to be on my own to dwell on the emptiness I felt. I am happy and I have also made more friends since then and enjoyed those nights that I am not working going out with my newly found friends for dinner and drinks.

"What about you. What are you doing here?" I asked curiously.

"After you left, I also resigned and gotten a job in this hotel as a electrical technician. I guess we will be seeing each other pretty often now!"

"Oh, that is a drastic change, from a Chef to an Electrical Technician! Anyway, let's, catch up again. I got to go. See you!"
