Skimmer costed into Fang Gully. A long braid of knotted twin hung from his mouth. He glided amount the sharp fins of rock, tipping his wings as he wheeled between them, searching for sent or sound.
Then he heard it - the familiar lit of Cal's voice, echoing through the water ahead. With a surge with power he raced into he gully, tail straight as an arrow.
Skimmer navigated the maze skillfully. Within minutes he approached the clearing before the cliff.
Just as he slowed and unfurled his horns, something powerful struck his wing and thumped the base of this tail. Skimmer flipped awkwardly and crashed his other wing against a rock. A third blow behind his skull sent him flopping to the seabed.
Tangler picked up the braid that had been fallen from Skimmer's mouth and tossed it away. He tugged as the ray's wing as if it were a plaything. but Skimmer lay lifeless, already half covered with settling sand.
