Chereads / Canis Lupus / Chapter 66 - Moves

Chapter 66 - Moves

Staring down at my hands, I found they look translucent. I touched my disheveled dress, or at least tried to. My hand went right through the fabric. Holding in a squeal of joy, I covered my mouth and smiled to myself. Soon I would be a part of the real world. Finally!

A door swung open in the distance and I could hear rapid steps, a notification of someone's arrival. I could sense her before I heard her.

"No!" She screamed in terror as she looked in the cell to find me disappearing.

"You've lost, my dear baby sister Selene." I said in a calm even voice.

"Caeles!" She opened the door and reached for me, but her fingers went right through.

The last thing I saw was her kaleidoscopic eyes tint red and her fist clench in anger.

I woke up in excruciating pain.

*Praesul something is wrong!*

*Nothing is wrong, the baby is coming early.*

I shook Indicum and he woke with a jump.

"My water broke." I said, worried he'd gotten wet from it.

His normally tan face was as white as a ghost. In a split second he lifted me into his arms.

"I've mind-linked the pack doctor and she's prepping your bed in the hospital now." He said all in a rush.

I cried out in pain as he jostled me on the walk over.

"I'm sorry love." He whispered inhaling my scent, calming himself. "It'll all be over soon."

You'd think being a badass female Alpha I could handle a second child, but honestly it hurt like a mother lover…

"If you don't get me to the hospital this instant I'm gonna fucking lose it!" I screamed and Indy picked up his pace.

Thankfully, I was able to give birth within four hours.

"Congratulations Alphas! It's a girl!"

They cleaned her before handing her to me. Her eyes were wide open and… gold?

"Woah." Indy said as he noticed her eye color. "Neither of us have golden eyes."

"Praesul has yellow orange." I shrug.

He fiddles with his shirtsleeve.

"What?" I ask as my eyelids begin to shut.

"Sleep. We will talk once you've rested." With his warm hand tucked into mine I dozed off, our daughter still in my arms.

*Am I healed yet?*

My wolf grunts, I've asked her every hour on the hour for three days straight.

*Give yourself another hour then you should be right as rain.* She replied wearily.

When my strength comes back, I focused all of my power on the room surrounded in red. I could feel a lone soul trapped.

*You should be focusing on a way to break the other bonds to get out.* Nix grumbles.

I shush my wolf and keep concentrating. Slowly I see a man, blurred but there's no mistaking his hulking form.

A soft pitter patter of footsteps was faintly audible. The sound distracts me from my revelation. A band snaps and I lose control of my magic. The footsteps grow louder before someone taps gently on my door.

"Come in." I whisper hoping it's just loud enough to be heard by the person at the door and no one else.

I hear a clanging of keys swishing about then drop to the floor. The swishing sound again then a bang on the floor. I sigh and sit back.

*This might be a while.* Nix muses.

When the door finally opens, a little boy stands there a big smile on his face.

"I knew you'd be here princess!" He claps his hands and the keys fall again.

"Augur!" I whisper and smile, running over the the little boy who looks just like Regina.

I scoop him up in a warm embrace. He stiffens in my arms.

"Sorry for hugging you." I say setting him down.

"That was a hugging?" The confusion on his face nearly breaks my heart.

"Yes, I gave you a hug." I smile patiently.

"I've never had a hug before." He says shyly.

"Well you'll get plenty more where I'm taking you!" I grab his hand and start to walk down the hallway.

They should've kept me blindfolded the whole way. Idiots.

"You're going the wrong way!" He whisper shouted at me.

I frown, "What do you mean?"

"We've got to save my friend down there." He points to the door, the one I had noticed was surrounded in red.

I know the man inside the room can take care of himself. He probably could've broken free a long time ago. I'd seen this in my vision. Either we escape now or we get caught. The boy stood firm, his green eyes unyielding. Wait, weren't they silver before? Damn, he really is his mother's son. Reluctantly I grab the keys from Augur and run down the hall to the man.

There are 7 locks on the door and I groan. Augur grabs the keys and shows me the most worn ones. I match them with the color of the lock. We finish quickly and enter the room. The man is haggard looking. Long hair flows down his back and his beard is just as long.

"Hello Alpha." I say tentatively.

His eyes look up at me as he tilts his head to the side. "Niveus?"

"You sound like more of a toad than a wolf." I muse. "There's no time for banter. We're here to rescue you."

"We?"

I step aside revealing Augur. Tears brim in the man's eyes. He looks him over again and again.

"Release me," He sobs, "so at last I can hold my son."

"What will we call her?" I whisper to Indy.

"What about Serenity?" He suggests.

"I like that! We can call her Ren for short." I yawn.

Suddenly an alarm blares throughout the hospital. Panic settles over me at the realization of what's to come.

"No!" I scream clutching Serenity to my chest.

Indy senses my distress. "No one will harm you or our child. Promise me you'll protect her!"

"With my life." I vow.

History was to repeat itself. This time I wouldn't give up my child without a fight. I gathered everyone in the hospital and lead them toward the bunker. Since the last attack Aqua designed and built a bunker that used biometrics. It was located directly beneath the hospital.

"Alpha quick!" A nurse rushed me toward the entrance holding one of the triplets.

"Where are the rest?" I look around for more babies.

"In the nursery! I was helping an elderly woman so I could only grab one."

I handed her Serenity. "Keep her safe, I'll go back for the other two."

The two babies looked at each other and it almost looked like they smiled. That wasn't normal baby behavior, was it?

Quickly I made my way to the nursery where just two of triplets were left. I could tell by the cribs they were the boys. Carefully, I picked them both up and cradled them against me. They were snug as I ran lightening speed back to the bunker. I entered without a hitch.

*What's going on Indy?*

No response.

*Indy?*

Radio static.

*What's going on Aqua?*

*It's them! Ignis is leading the bloody charge!*
