Chereads / Canis Lupus / Chapter 63 - One

Chapter 63 - One

I calmly lay Regina on the bed before jumping up alert. The first thing I smell is a bloodsucker. Before they could get the door open completely, I growled and mind-linked the warriors to converge on my location.

*What the hell? You weren't even listening to me!*

*Someone is literally at my bedroom door trying to hurt my wife and pup. Spare me the dramatics!*

Aqua flinches but I can tell she is on her way to our location.

I slam the door in the vampire's face before turning to Regina. She's sitting upright, her naked body covered only by the thin bedsheet. My cock twitched. Seriously…at a time like this…

"What's going on?" Fear emanated from the bond as she grasped her stomach protectively.

"An attack." I growl.

The door burst open like a grenade. I was thrown forward but quickly recovered. My hand shot out with claws extended and slashed the first attacker's throat. Blood spurted everywhere and the smell was nauseating. There were only two others and they used their inhuman speed to enter our room.

I could feel Eques take control wanting to protect our mate and pup. My bones cracked and broke as I shifted into my wolf. Eques growled then placed us between the assailants and Regina.

One attacked and I lunged for it, ripping its throat out with my teeth. The other went for Regina but not before my back legs connected with its chest. I kicked it hard enough to break bones but vampires regenerate just as quickly as we do. It's eyes reopened as I advanced.

"Who sent you?" Regina asked, no longer fearful. An immense amount of anger surged through our bond.

"Your days are numbered, Alpha." He smiled at her flashing his fangs.

I shifted back and stood before him, "You will answer her."

"Your authority doesn't extend to my kind." He spat and I stepped on his leg, crushing it beneath my foot.

A bloodcurdling scream escaped his lips before a smirk returned to his face.

"Even humans know the art of magic sometimes uses misdirection." He laughed until I tore his head clean off.

Regina got up and rushed into my arms. She hugged me and kissed me with fierce passion.

"Ahem." Aqua coughed. "Hate to break up this happy little moment but they got what they came for."

"And what is that?" Regina asked standing stark naked in front of Aqua and a couple warriors.

I growled possessively and hid her exposed body behind me.

"A warrior communicated she smelled vampires and a team broke off to investigate. All but one were killed."

A man stepped forward, trembling. "They told me to relay a message. Please don't kill the messenger."

"Get to the point." I growled grabbing the sheet and putting it over Regina before grabbing a pair of boxers to wear.

Regina sat on the bed, rubbing her stomach. I could sense a pain through the bond, she probably had cramps.

"They said they took the Seer to have one more eye." He stared at his feet nervously.

"What does that mean?" I turned to Regina.

"They've taken Niveus. Where's Aether?" She was gritting her teeth in anger.

"He's in the infirmary. He fought to protect Niveus but in the end they got the better of him." Aqua said biting a nail.

Regina let out a howl of frustration and everyone showed their neck in submission. I didn't, instead I moved to cup her face in my hands.

"We will get her back." I reassured her.

"Promise me." She looked straight into my eyes. It felt like she was staring into my soul.

"At all costs." I nod gravely.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"I saw this coming you know." I say to my captors. "Why do you think I let you take me?"

They were silent, ignoring me as I followed behind them. My wrists were bound in silver and they dragged me along by a long chain. It burned where it came in contact with my skin. I felt the pain would be worth it in the end.

"Shut up, witch." A vampire flashed his fangs at me.

"I'm part wolf actually. I can see glimpses of the future. Do you want to know your fate?" A hard slap whipped across my face.

"You may speak only when spoke to. Do you understand?" A woman, probably shewolf, snapped.

I glared but nodded my head, once.

"Good." She snarled.

When we reached the clearing, all I could see was tall grass. They led me to the left of the clearing then paused. One guy stomped his foot four times then stepped back. Suddenly a trap door sprung open and I was shoved roughly down a hole. My hands and knees connected roughly with dirt.

"Get up." The shewolf snarled, pulling me up by the chains roughly.

I gritted my teeth, "When you die, my face will be the last you see."

She rolled her eyes and yanked me along like a rag doll. My white hair was coming out of its long braid and tickling my face. I blew at it in frustration.

Pushed into a cell, I stumbled and landed on something soft yet rough. In the sunlight, I could see it was a pile of hay.

"Welcome to your new home." She smiled before locking the cell and departing.

*Aether? Regina?* I tried to mind-link pack members but it was no use.

I hoped Aether was alright. The protective charm I put around him should've kept him alive at least.

Taking time to meditate, I could feel the magic pulsing around me. Swirls of purple and red woven between a deep blue. When I truly focused, I could sense the purple aura. I tried to delve deeper and it opened like a flower, showing me its intended purpose. The purple cut all communication outside the homestead. Great.

Sweat poured down my face but I had to keep exploring. The red indicated something else. Possibly enabling fatigue and weakness. Strangely it wasn't around my cell. It was only on a single cell about four blocks down from mine. There was such a thick enchantment around the space that the red was wine colored.

My body started shaking as I tried to dig into the blue pattern. The blue woven magic was hard to decipher. I could feel my grip on my senses slacking. If only I had more time to probe, I know I could discover its purpose! The corners of my vision turned black and everything became blurry. Before I passed out completely I saw a face. A little boy with dark hair and green wait no silver eyes.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Augur, who are you?"

"Your ticket to freedom! Come find me!"
