Chapter 2 - Daily Life of Shut-ins (1)

"Ekkkk no, you're supposed to hit me," I screamed.

The trucks avoided my path very dextrously. I wondered why the driver was being so alert today. Weren't truck drivers supposed to be tired from driving all day? Instead, a nasty glare greeted me from the window.

"You almost got me killed!" the driver yelled.

"Why are you kids all jumping in front of trucks these days? Do you think I'll hit you so you could go to a fantasy world? You're the seventh kid this month!"

Hmmm. So I was the seventh person to jump in front of a truck for this person. What a pitiful life. No wonder the truck driver was able to dodge me so nicely, it was because the driver already had tons of experience.

"Do you know how many of my colleagues got victimized from the likes of your group?" the truck driver parked at the edge of the road.

"My friend lost his job and has to spend time in jail and get constant grief from the family where the kid disappeared. You guys selfishly only think about yourselves," the driver huffed.

Wow, that must have been tough. It was true that I was too focused on teleporting into another world that I didn't think what would happen to the drivers. I guess my fellow shut-ins were same in that selfish sense.

I did see some online ads where companies tried to recruit more truck drivers. But I scrolled through them mindlessly or closed the popup since it was a bother from watching my anime. I walked back to the sidewalk as I avoided the angry eyes of the driver.

"Sorry!" I blurted and bowed in a ninety degree angle.

I ran away back to my house without looking back. It was hard for a shut-in to interact with normal people. Especially angry people with our barely present oral communication skills. Nearby my house, there was a gossiping auntie who came back from grocery shopping. In my perfect image of a bishoujo days, I would pretend to listen to all the news going around my neighbourhood.

It was better to hide than to go to my house. Once she started talking, she never stopped, dragging the conversation when nobody was obviously listening to her. Going to the empty playground from everyone being in school, I sat on a swing. Watching at my house from a close distance, my head dropped when she found a victim to listen to her. Now she wasn't going to go inside her house for hours.

"You too?" My fellow shutin came to sit on a swing beside me.

"I tried to get hit by a truck and failed. Now I'm stuck here," I complained to my childhood friend.

"The truck drivers are more alert lately. You need to choose a nice road where they're less experienced. Don't tell me you chose the nearby truck lane?" He pulled on his hood.

"How did you know?" I almost gasped.

"That place has been the most popular spot for weeks. I gave up after I kept on running into the same truck driver three times in a row," he sighed.

Nodding my head, I was disappointed how the difficulty level had increased to get isekaied into another world. Once the auntie had disappeared into her house, pulling the victim with her, I sprinted to my house. Locking the door behind me, I didn't want to leave the house again. Closing my bedroom door, I smiled from being inside my safe place.

Pulling out my laptop to find a better road, I searched for more truck only lanes. I was stunned when there were many forums on most of the truck lanes in my area. Reading some of the complaints in the forum, I was surprised to know I was already late in the game. I didn't think I was lucky today to be able to meet a truck in general.

[I can't believe they made me get in line to get hit by a truck! There was ten people in front of me at the peak time to get hit TT]

[Wouldn't it be easier to get hit by a car lately? My uncle recently got hired as a truck driver and they get training for half an year on how to avoid kids suddenly running in front of them]

[My city is getting rid of all the truck only lanes]

"Onee-chan!" My younger sister interrupted me, knocking on the door.

"I bought the snacks you wanted so give me the money," she opened the door.

I pulled out the money I saved from my wallet before I became an shutin. Passing the twenty dollar bill to Mili, she looked at the forum I was reading. She frowned as she gave me valuable advice, "everyone in my class goes to that truck only lane almost every single day since a month ago. The trucks don't use that road in the daytime anymore, onee-chan."
