Chapter 77 - Chapter 0077 - Effort VS Reward and Disappointments.

Wu Hai had been trying to convince Jin. He had been explaining how his plan of action was to leave the world and but he wanted to leave something for them. Professor Quanli didn't slouch on his repayment of life and the passing of knowledge. Before he became Wu Hai, Jigui had died trying to advance the worlds understandings. He was pushing boundaries for survival and betterment of the entire human race.

He was still trying to do right by this World. Even if he hadn't lived it or experienced it himself, he still felt a feeling of attachment to the world around him. His previous incarnations generosity had translated into his new life and even his personality.

Being raised in a different World, Zao Wu Hai had a prospective that was entirely unique to this moment in Earths history. He saw the devastation brought upon the world. Destroying mankind's future to save its population seemed like a very harsh plan but the more he thought about it the easier it was to accept.

Wu Hai had considered turning the world back to the stone age but he couldn't bring himself to set the population back hundreds if not, thousands of years. There were advancements made that seemed rather useful but at the same time deadly. Their attachment to processes that created pollution was a huge reminder that he had very few choices to pick. He searched his memories, after a moment, he came to the realization that he had gathered quite a few things but he still hadn't met anyone with magic or energy. He remembered something about warrior priests and turned his attention towards them.

"Monks.." Wu Hai said the word aloud.

Jin pressed open the door and stopped, "Monks? You mean Buddhists? I think there are still some temples in Dengfeng. What do you want with Monks?" Feeling puzzled at the word, he checked his phone for information on them. "Yeah, they still have some buildings but I don't know if anyone's there. It's a bit late to call them."

"Jin, I need to make a trip to see the Monks at the Temples in Dengfeng. Rent the Entire Hotel, All of the rooms they have available and the conference room. If my Sister calls you, have her come to the Hotel immediately and bring everything with her." Wu Hai had regained portions of his memory from his previous life but it was filled with vague details. Wu Hai had a few presumptions about his upcoming plans that needed lots of revision.

Jin thought he heard wrong. "Master, you want all the rooms? Its going to cost more.. probably a lot."

"Just rent them all, I've found a better solution in my head but it's going to take some work." Without going into too much detail, he explained his plan to Jin. One of the things Wu Hai did remember about this world was that were hundreds of Kung Fu movies that influenced him as a kid and in a lot of those movies, many of the greatest martial artists in the world had roots from the Shaolin.

Holding the Mystic Cup firmly, he threw the the Form Die out.

Wu Hai took on a Qilinkin form. He needed speed and flight was still the fastest way to travel in this world. No amount of sprinting would make it easy for him, the roads here were filled with automobiles and obstacles that made running at full speed mostly pointless.

"Good, Now I just need to get there. I don't know if I'll be gone for the whole month but I can come back at any time." Wu Hai produced gold bars from storage and set them on the table. He looked over to Jin and told him to buy whatever he wanted after booking the remainder of the hotel rooms and the conference room for the rest of the month. When they reunited, Wu Hai would gather everything into his storage.

"It doesn't matter what you want, I can even bring larger things like a car. Just remember, We don't have roads." Wu Hai laughed and then flew up in broad daylight from the Temple of Heavens parking lot.

His efforts to conceal himself would be pointless in flight and he knew that he would get the world's attention even if he didn't want it. Putting some strength into his wings, Wu Hai made the short journey to the south across the Hai River Basin and onto the summit of Mount Song.

Looking below he was curious about many things he was seeing.

When he landed he pulled out the cup and metal die, he rolled until he got what he wanted. He prepared to use mental energy to probe the area for powerful people with the soul power's psychic abilities.

If anyone around had magic in this world, when they arrived in the next, they would be ready and able to defend themselves to some degree.

Pushing out another tree at the summit of Mount Song, its towering profile cast a shadow on the City below. With Wu Hai's new abilities, the tree was slightly different than usual and unique to both worlds. Its roots spread out below the mountain and into the earth. As it grew, its shadow crept across the landscape, blotting out the sun. Bright purple flower pedals bloomed in its canopy and a calming sensation spread from its branches.

Donghuazhen was buzzing with activity, when the tree appeared many people noticed and a lot of the traffic in the City stopped. The people in the fields all stopped to look, their faces had nothing to shield them from the intense sunlight. When they looked up, all they could see had been shaded, eclipsed by the monolithic growth on the mountain.

Retracting his senses Wu Hai, tossed the dice a few more times until he had both Healing and Soul as his abilities. He was able to branch his magic over the entire area. While probing, he probably could have checked further away but there were just too many people. Actively ignoring those without power or spiritual sense, he found a family of nine in a small house by the River.

The house was falling apart and everyone inside was hungry or sick. They had no pets, no livestock, and no farmland. They did not look like they would survive the coming season.

"This World makes less sense the more I look at it. These people are surrounded by food but are unable to touch even the smallest bit. It is truly a stain." Wu Hai felt pained at the sight of the landscape. His wings unfurled and he leapt from the mountain.

֍ꟷꟷꟷꟷ֍

The Ying River near Nanyue Temple was already approaching a dry riverbed, the stench of toxins filled the air from the many plastic factories that had been built.

Landing outside of the house, Wu Hai could hear the people inside talking. His presence was not only felt by them spiritually, they entire suburb slum had walked out after hearing the news feeds. The constant flash of cell phones made his arrival highly publicized, it wasn't long until the police started to arrive outside of the House.

Wu Hai had not been there long, perhaps a minute before he cleared his throat. "People inside, May I enter?"

He spoke loud and clear, making sure not to mince his words. He didn't show malice or contempt in his voice, the door opened and a small thin man came outside. Wu Hai tucked his wings back so that he could enter through the door and had the man lock it behind him.

He entered the room and the Entire family was sitting in a corner. "My name is Zao Wu Hai. I ..don't let my appearance frighten you." Wu Hai felt like he was off to a good start and gave his name.

The constant flash noises from Cameras was annoying but he ignored them as they peered through the windows from the roadside. The man's wife closed the curtains and sat down behind her husband.

"We are the just a broken branch of the Mi Family, What does our family have that you could want?" Mi Yong was the Family head and the first to open his mouth, everyone else kept their eyes on Wu Hai. When a Branch Head spoke the rest of his family listened, if he had not gathered them up from across the city all of them would have starved to death during the last six months.

"First thing's first." Wu Hai had already rolled until he had a Healing and Soul for his abilities, he cracked his knuckles.

The family members didn't understand what was going on until Wu Hai started walking up to each of them. He was already familiar with their conditions from a distance. Like his sister, he had a more profound method of probing the mind and body, or truth of things. Concentrating took little effort after the first of them. With his abilities, Wu Hai had enough time to work on repairing their damaged spirits from a distance as he approached. Now, It was time to fix their bodies.

"What are you doing?" Head Yong was about to stop Wu Hai when he noticed the expression on one of the youngest children.

Wu Hai had grabbed his youngest son by the head and almost instantly after he had him in his grasp, his eyes cleared up.

The Boy had been blinded almost completely as a child. He could barely see, when he opened both of his eyes and they came into focus, the youngest of the Mi Family, Mi Jun, knelt in prostration and revered Wu Hai like an Angel that had come down to save them.

The other family members had mixed expressions but Mi Jun's face turn from one of pain, twisted from hunger, to an expression of tranquility and happy youth

"Next." Wu Hai spent less than 15 minutes healing everyone and then sat down on the floor. He wasn't tired, but he needed to explain a lot and he really needed their attention back on him. They were all still in shock from feeling healthy, it took a bit of effort to peel their focus back towards his arrival.

"I come from another world." Allowing that to sink in for a second he continued. "You and your family have spiritual presence. I came to this area to seek the Shaolin, to see if they wanted to leave this world for a better one but when I felt the spiritual power of the Temple, all I could find were those that had nothing but self-interest, loathing, or a deep sense of regret. Bitter." Wu Hai always took things seriously when it came to life and death.

This time was no different.

"What I want is very simple. I want you to come with me back to my world and leave this one behind. I am staying at the Orange Hotel in Beijing. I'm gathering everyone I want to come with me there before I leave." Wu Hai had everyone's attention and then he put a single bar of gold onto the table.

All eyes in the family dazzled with excitement. He wasn't sure if it was his request or the gold but either way, they seemed enthusiastic about their meeting.

"Whether you choose to go or not, I think your family is quite important. Of all the people I've met in the countryside, I would only invite you. Here is the address and the time I'm departing. Keep the gold a secret, this should be more than enough to get your family to Beijing there without being detected or followed. Whatever you choose will be your own choice, I will make it my business to ensure you're treated with the honor your family deserves if you decide to join me." Wu Hai didn't expect to find anyone since he hadn't had much luck thus far, he had searched most of the Hai River Basin already and come up with nothing.

It was nice to see some potential. The disparaged looks on the family had disappeared. Their faces held confusion for a moment and then the Mi family watched the Bird Man stand up.

He was hoping to recruit a battalion of fighting monks but apparently they were 'out of stock.' Wu Hai had considered a lot of ideas since his arrival on Earth. One of the ideas was simple, raise an Army. There were problems with the idea of domination but he still had to consider it.

Wu Hai walked out of the small shack, the cameras and pictures that had been spread online had alerted the police. They were waiting outside and had their weapons drawn.

When Wu Hai appeared, most of them didn't know what to do and stood in confusion.

Stretching his wings, Wu Hai leapt into the air and took off to the West. He wanted to see if India had someone else he could recruit. With one disappointment after another, his hopes were not very high.

֍ꟷꟷꟷꟷ֍

Stopping in Patna, he looked around at the Ganges and saw many people digging throughout the riverbed just hoping to eat whatever they caught. The over population of the area had dramatically impacted the food supply.

Wu Hai landed on top of the Biscomaun that stood across from an old Children's Hospital. The place was covered in soot, the fires from the burning garbage in the streets filled the air with an even worse quality.

"How do people live like this?" Wu Hai landed in the center of the Ganges River and started leaping from one spot to the next toward the River's source.

Every time the Prince would land, he would plant another Dodona tree. When he came to the Bhagirathi River, where it met the Ganges. He realized that the amount of people following him as he traveled up river was growing, the crowds were like swarming ants.

The trail of Dodona Tree's made quite an impression on the people. Some knelt in reverence, others cursed because the trees easily took over the waterway. Several container ships were caught within the Canal way, unable to go further.

After planting another cluster near the River in an industrial area, Wu Hai didn't even bother to continue looking in India for spiritually empowered people.

When he was returning over Patna, he had noticed that some of the humans had already tried to cut down a Tree. The Dodona Trees were completely unaffected by the saws, Wu Hai had experienced a great number of Trees in his world that could withstand the impact of his full charge and those Trees were a lot weaker than the Dodona Trees, they would only look like fools when trying to chop one down.

It had only been half a day, Wu Hai had planned with Jin to meet again in two weeks. His visit with the Shoalin should have taken longer but there was no reason to even approach them. He had even given himself enough time to learn from them if they chose to ignore his interest. He was sure he would be able to learn how to return home before arriving at the Hotel, waiting was not his strong suit.

In an effort to find something else to occupy his time away, Wu Hai kept going over the memories from his past life and then it dawned on him.."I need to find Gamers." Swooping down, Wu Hai stopped near a man wearing a VR helmet in a park.

The man didn't have any energies in his body or spiritual presence but he did have a helmet with him as he sat on the Bench. His attention was elsewhere, lost in the online world.

"Excuse me, Sir. I need to ask you some questions." The man was in his own world, unless someone interrupted him with a forced pause to the gaming device, he would be unable to respond and completely unaware of his surroundings.

When the Man didn't reply, Wu Hai pressed the button on the side of the helmet. The button signaled the user that someone was standing next to his real life body and needed to speak to him. Much like a text, it could take a long time for the user to choose to respond.

Wu Hai was in luck however, the man quickly got out of his VR game and when he opened his eyes, the man started to scream in fright.

"AHH!! M-muh muhmm-MONSTER!" Scrambling to his feet and running away at his fastest pace, the man had reflexively left his VR helmet on the ground.

Wu Hai picked the helmet up and noticed it was way too small for his head. Shaking his head lightly, he sighed and pulled out the form die for a Human body. His head was smaller but his clothes were loose again. Wu Hai didn't know what the man would do after running away, so he sprinted to the other side of the park and hid out of the light.

Putting the helmet on, he could feel the sweat that had built up from the previous owner. He took it off. Wu Hai cast a drying spell and then put the helmet on his head again. It was one thing to borrow someone's equipment when abandoned, it was another to wipe the shed toxins onto his body.

After checking the load-out program, Wu Hai noticed that the internet felt a little faster than it was when he remembered in the visions. He didn't have a whole lot of time to stick around but he figured out how to check the internet forums. After a quick search for Internet Cafe's, he found a convention in Tokyo hosted by V4 Gaming.

Japan was a few hours away by flight but according to the sight, the gaming convention lasted for multiple days and continued throughout the nights. His past life's memories showed a deep hatred for Japanese people in the gaming community, China was always at odds with their Oceanic Neighbor.

Wu Hai wasn't sure what his reactions to hostile humans would be but he would have to endure it.

The flight across China after rolling for a Demon-kin body was very quick. Wu Hai saved himself at least an hour of flight just by choosing to risk the Demon form's baser instincts. In truth, he only wanted the wings but there was a risk involved and he needed to feel secure. The regeneration powers of Demons was something no one could deny.

As he passed over Myanmar on his B-line to Shanghai, he was tracked by Fighter Jets. The Pilots were apprehensive and couldn't maintain a target lock. They buzzed at him a few times but they couldn't hover fast enough.

Wu Hai wasn't about to start a War, the pilots were both furious and unsure how to handle their target. They had lined up their sights on re-approach. With their fingers on the firing mechanisms, they quickly arrived near the monster on the horizon.

Wu Hai didn't like the idea of starting a war. Looking through the canopy windows, he couldn't make out the Pilot's faces. The second plane was a few hundred meters behind the first as they set themselves up for a strafing run.

Wu Hai tore the first pilot from his cockpit, then grabbed the ejection seat from the steel cage moving at Mach 2. The pilot, who landed on the ground before hid planes, thought that he had died.

The second pilot turned back to reengage until the radio squelched.

After ripping the canopy from the aircraft, Wu Hai had brought the first pilot to the ground safely.

The downed pilot was speaking over the radio in confusion. On the ground, he could see the Bird Man hovering and waiting for the returning fighter jet like it was a joke. After some discouragement from the already downed pilot, the second jet turned away in retreat to base.

"I am not your enemy." He had said it very loud but there was no telling if they could hear him at all, he regained his heading and flew away. The Prince didn't have the patience to deal with more incoming fighters. Turning his back to the fleeing metallic mount, Zao Wu Hai worked his way toward China's coastline once again.

Upon reaching Shanghai, Wu Hai thought briefly about his destination plans.

In the distance he stopped on a tall building shaped like a circle. Its round roof gave it a familiar feel, there was something snaring at his senses. Wu Hai felt like he needed to look around again and searched the surroundings.

After just beginning his search, he found a facility housing about a hundred people. All hundred people were giving off a strange and cold aura.

Wu Hai had a lot of experience with Auras. He had felt a myriad of Auras in the human cities of his Homeworld. The feeling he was currently entranced upon wasn't exactly the same. it was terror and despair.

"What is this? It doesn't feel like Ice but its so cold, like fear. Fear.. Aura." Wu Hai tucked his wings and rushed down toward the building.

When he landed on the research facility's roof, the Guards that were present started to fire at him from all directions.

Demon-kin bodies regenerated, with Wu Hai's healing abilities the effect was intensified. The Bullets themselves didn't have the slightest chance to wound him, he dove into the building's structure.

Crashing through the ceiling tiles, he was excited after having been fired upon. It was a rush, like one of his first adventures. His battle senses tightened and he looked fiercely at several of the men aiming their weapons at him.

'These humans are contemptuous.' Wu Hai scoffed inwardly at the feelings that arose from the hundred lives he felt below, there was misery, fear, despair, hopelessness and pain.

The Guards on the roof were unable to keep up and after reaching his entry point, they began firing blindly into the hole.

Stopping on the ground floor, Wu Hai could feel closer to the group of people experiencing this great panic and fear. The feeling was still a bit further down and the feelings from the auras were nearly tangible manifestations.

The Prince hadn't come across anyone on Earth with such an Aura. He could feel it like the food in his stomach had gone sour. The cries of anguish from the people in the distance grew more intense the closer he became. The gunfire above translated through the floors, there were alarms ringing and guards rushing to strategic positions.

"FIRE!" One of the guard squads popped out of a corner and ordered his men to open fire.

The bullets was nothing to worry over, Wu Hai didn't bother to dodge.

The Chinese government were not the Official owners of this building but the guards themselves were all Chinese government agents. This fact confused Wu Hai, the Chinese government claimed to always tell its people everything, never hiding anything at all from the public. It was clear that the building was some sort of secret lab, whatever they had done to the people inside was surely a severe a human rights violation. The tortured screams of the people were evidence enough for the prince, he became infuriated.

Wu Hai's previous life's memories were very adamant on the concept of perceived transparency from government. The People's Republic of China was suppose to tell its citizens all truths but for some reason, he didn't feel that was still true. Wu Hai could feel the corruption, of course it was just a feeling. The waste materials he had flown over during his search earlier had already shown him the people's ignorance and disinterest any form of human rights..

"I don't understand what is going on but these people will leave with me.. Today!!" Wu Hai slammed his fist against a wall and felt his body seething with bloodlust. His eyes burst with a green light and purple threads of energy surrounded him.

The fragments of the wall fell to the floor and Wu Hai let out a piercing howl. Roaring with passion, he charged at the guard that wouldn't stop shooting at him and tore his hands from his wrists.

The piercing scream of the guard couldn't outstrip the volume of the cries below.

Then, Wu Hai threw the commanding officer into his subordinates and through another wall into the adjacent room.

It was a mess. Like shoving a wet blanket through the hole in the wall, the guards folded in all the wrong directions. The room was decorated with their insides and dust.

Looking down, Wu Hai could feel the auras of the people in pain. They were only another twenty feet down into the basement, locked in cages.

Wu Hai stomped on the flooring and a hole started to open with the first strike, after a few kicks, he was through the sub-floor and onto the next level.

There were doctors and research assistants in the vicinity.

Wu Hai kicked the ground again, only this time much harder and dropped down to another sub-floor.

The vibrations of the rubble as it bounced from one place to another on the concrete, made everyone on the basement floor tremble.

Conduit lined the walls around the cages, every few seconds a switch turned on and electrified the bars.

Each time the switch was thrown, all one hundred people would jump when the voltage reached their cells.

"Who knows how long they had undergone this form of torture?" Wu Hai couldn't bare to see it. He drew a spear from his storage and threw it at the Guard posted near the relay.

The force of the spear crushed the operator's face and pinned him to the wall. His mangled head was the only thing keeping his body upright, it sagged against the drywall, limp and lifeless.

Sending out his soul threads to investigate the people's condition, Wu Hai could observe the pain emanating from the prisoners without it.

Rolling the Dice to get a Human body with healing powers, he hoped that he wouldn't frighten the prisoners. Wu Hai pried open all the cells and started grabbing each person individually.

As the people saw this, they didn't run. Their spirit had been broken to the point that they mostly shirked and cowered. To them, death was a reprieve from the suffering.

"I cannot accept this!" The anger, the twisted grief of the prisoners churned at the Prince's good nature. Wu Hai was furious while he worked to heal the people that were locked in cages like experiments.

'I searched almost the entire nation and didn't find this many people with ability.' Wu Hai was puzzled by the operations of the facility and felt deep resentment to his former life's Homeland.

'If this is how China treats its people, I'd rather not consider myself Chinese.' Wu Hai spread his ability out and started diagnosing the deeper damage done to them. The damage was great and none of them were easy to heal but he was able to save the majority of the prisoners.

With overwhelming sensations, Wu Hai felt the minds of all seventy two survivors. The others did not have the ability to fight and regain their minds.

Leading the people out of the building, many guards tried to stop them. However, when they noticed the escapees were in good health, they all chose to run. The Aura's they emitted only grew more intense as the prisoners fled.

Wu Hai couldn't have them report to their superiors.

With a snap, roots sprang from the ground and caught all the fleeing guards before they were crushed by newly forming Dodona trees. In the center of the City, sixteen giant Dodona trees warped the streets and grew in a cluster. The building came crashing down behind him.

'A Prince doesn't watch. A Prince acts for the People.' Comforting himself through his own trials, Wu Hai knelt down and began to speak to the released Prisoners, they had decisions to make.

"Keep to the shadows, speak to no one. Head to the Orange Hotel and find a man named Jin." Wu Hai had healed them, released them, and now given them a direction to head.

Whatever they chose was theirs to choose.

"If you want to leave this world with me, don't be late. You have ten days to get to there." Wu Hai could read the situation. He didn't have any paper money, only gold. He felt it was ridiculous to give them a gold bar each but it was all he had on hand.

The Prince was short on time and he didn't expect anything from them in return but he couldn't just watch, never. "Go! I have to get to Tokyo, I will return in 9 or 10 days so we can leave but be ready to go when I arrive, who knows what the hell will happen. If you're not there.. you're not coming with me."

Wu Hai pulled out the cup and re-rolled to his Demonkin form quickly, It had been used so often lately.

'If Darkwing hadn't found the Cup..' Wu Hai shuddered at the thought and leapt into the air for Tokyo.

There were some approaching aircraft in the distance. They seemed to be patrolling and searching for something, he didn't have time to bother with them and quickly flew beyond the clouds.

֍ꟷꟷꟷꟷ֍

The Air over the Kumamoto was very wet, the cloud cover helped hide Wu Hai's arrival. His trajectory was likely tracked by Japan's Air Force. After knocking two planes out of the sky in Myanmar, it was likely he had made the news feeds and World Leaders nervous. He had considered wiping North Korea out to help the military forces of Myanmar but it felt too easy and beneath him to slaughter for political reason that didn't belong to him.

Japan might be a social rival of China but he just didn't want to see it demolished or enter a state of war by his own hands, at least, not yet.

As Wu Hai was passing over Nantan, he saw the Rinshoji Temple below and felt something pulling him down.

He wasn't choosing to go, his body was being drawn straight down, fast, and hard.
