A good thing about Golem Spirits was that they didn't die if you took their cores away. They could eventually rebuild their bodies if they were kept in the right environment. A Stage Eight Lava Rock Golem like this one probably would be able to recover to full power in a year, more or less. So... he was still pretty much alive.
