Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

*SUNDAY*

Keep calm. Be respectful. Get tasks done.

This has become my mantra. My job at Searan Co. is to do the chores for employees. Not like a janitor, but chores like getting coffee and supplies and files. That kind of thing. To be honest though, I could probably do more. But I won't even if I really want to show how not-dull a beta can be. The last thing I need in a company like this is attention. A male beta who can have kids. Bet they'd like to take a blood test... or possibly multiple. No, thank you kindly. Now goodbye.

Anyway, my manta is on auto replay as I walk behind my new advisor, Mrs. Tracy. Of course, I'm not speaking aloud.

Abruptly, my mantra becomes much more simple and easy to understand.

Don't murder, killing is illegal. Don't murder killing is illegal. Don't murder, killing is illegal.

Maybe I can- NO! I cannot.

By now you may be wondering why these primal thoughts even slithered into my head. Let's do a flashback for a moment...

I'm following behind Mrs.Tracy as she tours me around the 40 story building, aka Searan Co., when suddenly a tall man -alpha by his scent- pops out from nowhere and stops me in my tracks. After twice trying to get around him, I give up. Mrs.Tracy finally seems to notice that I am no longer following her like a pup.

Mrs.Tracy confidentially strifes back to the man and I, her dark blue suit and darker features only serving to make her seem more imposing, intimidating, and... beautiful.

Not that I've got a thing for her. I bat for the other team.

"Mr.Valos," Mrs.Tracy states. "I need to-"

"MRS.Tracy." He cuts her off, glancing back sharply. This catches me by surprise, especially when Mrs.Tracy comes to attention immediately, almost like we were in military training. My concern grows. I can already tell that Mr.Valos is a man with a disgusting personality. The fact that Mrs.Tracy reacted the way she did means Mr.Valos must have a higher station within the company than Mrs.Tracy. "I dare say, you've overstepped. This is an omega-free company. Unless, of course, this young man here is to be helping us with our research in the only way omegas can." The whole time he speaks, his muddy green eyes glint disgustingly and he wears a sardonic smirk that I want to slap off.

And this is where we left off before. I keep my new mantra in mind as I decide to speak up.

"Um, Mr.Valos, sir? I'm no omega..." I drift off as his head whips in my direction, leaving Mrs.Tracy behind, his nasty glare directed at me.

I hate that I flinch at that alpha glare. I hate how I suddenly feel like a weak omega. I repeat my mantra, but add, 'I'm a beta."

"Bullsh*t," Mr.Valos practically yells, spittle flying. Gross. Nasty a**. "You're in every way an omega; I know one when I see one," he grabs my arm, yanking me closer.

Ouch, my shoulder... but for some reason I can't seem to fight him back... It's definitely because I skipped breakfast. That invigorates me into action.

"Sir!" I gasp. My shoulder popped... it hurts. "I can assure you, I'm not an omega. I am a beta! Just smell me, there is no underlying scent; no pheromones!" I say this before I can think it through.

By now, many -maybe thirty- office workers have deemed my current situation the main attention. Especially as Mr.Valos gives me a slimy grin, grabs my chin, tilts my head sideways, and buries his face into my neck.

I speak in fear, pushing against his chest violently. While I may be neither omega nor beta, my instincts tilt towards omega in some ways. Like my absolute need to keep everything away from my neck, and my PARALYZING fear when an alpha gets close to my neck.

My shaking starts in my legs. Vaguely I notice that Mrs.Tracy turned away and ran a few moments ago... did she abandon me, just like this? I thought she was decent...

By now, he still hasn't left my neck. My eyes water and tears fall, I'm so terrified. And at the same time, I hate this world for giving me such a instincts. My whole body is shaking, and I feel like I'll collapse any moment. Mr.Valos chuckles into my neck, and licks from my ear to collarbone. None of the office workers are helping, some are even chuckling too.

Just when I'm about to faint of fear, I catch to figure if Mrs.Tracy out of the corner of my eye. I feel anger, but also IMMENSE relief.

That relief is short-lived.

"WHAT IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW?" A fierce and petrifying voice booms through the room. I catch a glimpse of a man with golden hair and near-black cold eyes. He's probably the most handsome man I've ever seen.
