I look down at the tear soaked face before looking up at the robots that are slowly approaching. 'I wonder, since I got a mission here, can I access my stats? Status.'
I wait for a moment and nothing happens. "So I can't access my status, but I have this suit. It seemingly specializes in speed which would be good if I specialized in speed. But I specialize in power so I am inexperienced in speed, was this mission created for the fact of me needing to expand my battle experience? The problem is I don't know the time ratio of here to reality. So I need to escape as fast as possible while ensuring this girl's survival....speaking of, where are we?"
I look around and my eyes lay on a decimated city behind the advancing robot army. 'Maybe this chick here knows what is happening.' I think as I look at the shaking girl in the hole that I just created.
"Hey, I need to know, where are we?" She stops shivering for a moment and looks up at my face, the metal teeth shining in the light. "D-did you hit your head or-r something?"
I look at her with an irritated look. "Just answer me please." She looks away and hesitates for a moment before finally saying, "We are on the front lines of Redone. We were sent here to slow the enemy's advance so the military could build reinforcements as well as a plan. It's been a one sided massacre in case you haven't noticed."
I nod as I process what she just told me, trying to remember anything I can. But I can't make anything of it, I have blueprints in my head, not history.
I duck down and watch carefully as I see a robot getting uncomfortably close to us.
I glance down at the woman as I try to prepare myself for the massacre I am going to have to do to save her.
"Remember to hide as best you can, I don't think running will be safe." She goes to say something but stops, nodding silently as I jump from behind the mud hill and begin to cause absolute havoc.
I hear screams of death as I destroy machines left and right, warnings blare in my ears as the nanobots rush to fix whatever damage is being done. And after killing about 5 robots, I see a flurry of blue lights enter my vision, and I watch as my vision goes dark.
My vision comes back as I have to stop myself from roaring, I quickly turn around, dig the hole, hide her, wait, and attack. This time, after beginning my massacre this time around, the number of robots I killed is now 6 before I died.
As I come back to my original location, I look around and am still in the same spot, still with the Asian behind me, shivering in fear. 'Guess it's time to start doing what anyone in a time loop tries to do, train, memorize, and overcome.'
'First step is I need to train my reflexes in this new suit, I need to get used to moving around and I need to learn how to utilize it to its fullest to deal the most damage.'
I take a step forward and mechanically roar, the inhuman noise gathering the attention of all the robots. I smile as I look nervously at each one, 'I'm gonna die, but at least I'll be learning how to fight!'
I bolt as I activate my ability and watch as blue lasers pass by me, making a whizzing sound as they cut through the air before exploding with a loud thunder as they hit the ground. And I begin my training of becoming the best in my new form.
At first, time passes by slowly as I feel the pain of death wash over me many times. But after a while, my mind has become numb to the pain. Then I could focus on training alone. Every day I died, I died a better version of myself than I did before, constantly improving on what I was before.
"..."
'579 deaths and counting.' The only thought that has been in the back of my head resurfaces as I breath heavily and gaze at the hundreds of pieces on the ground, "Although I lost track how many of them I killed...." I stare at the masses of metal and rivers of blood with emotionless eyes as I look around for more waves, before I realize something, there is no more robots. The large amounts of mud that would be kicked up when the robots were leaving the town is gone, there is no more mud, signaling that the waves have ended.
I look around as hope gleams one my eyes, before suddenly being struck by confusion. "But doesn't that mean the mission should of ended? Why am I still here? And where is the completion notification?"
I am stumped but shrug as I am still trapped in my this hell. 'So I probably got to do something else for the memory to be complete, that's what happens in video games, you aren't done until you find the ending. Unless this is an open world game because then I am screwed.'
I then am struck by my memory, "Oh yeah! The girl! I guess after about 100 deaths or somewhere around there, I would just put her in the hole automatically, I better go check and see if she's alright."
I crawl across the once brown field now charred black and dyed red with blood and ash. 'Is this the spot I left her? Ah yeah, there she is.' I finally reach the spot where I left her, although it looks a lot worse with the leftovers of war scattered about.
As I get close, I see her flinch as she sees me and backs up a bit. I am confused and ask her, "What? Do I look different?" Her eyes shake as she looks at me, fear covering her body. "What are you?" I look at my suit in the top corner of my screen and look it over, seeing blood, charred pieces, and mud covering my suit. I look back at her and smile, "The guy that just saved your life, a thank you would suffice, but I wouldn't decline a kiss on the cheek." She looks me over a bit more before her eyes fill with gratitude and tears flow down her face.
She gets up and looks around while constantly wiping the waterfall of tears away from her face. Her face looks at the ruins of the hundreds of robots with shock in her eyes as she looks over at me with wide eyes.
"Anyway, we gotta get going back to base, got any plans?" I ask as I see that she is finishing up her tears. She nods as she pulls out a pure blue box and clicks a square in on it. Suddenly, a voice echoes from the box, having a suppressing effect of any talk back.
"Report soldier 7725." She clears her throat and speaks, although her voice wavers as if she can't believe what she is saying herself. "All enemies have been eliminated by soldier 7726 using experimental technology, what do we do now?"
The other end is silent, then a mass amount of yelling is followed, yelling about getting an emergency chopper out here now. He quickly speaks back in, "We have sent a chopper to your coordinates, stay put, we have heard rumors that they also have experimental equipment in the field."
I suddenly feel the ground shake as I see the metal quiver, as if it has met its maker. Suddenly, a pillar of mud and blood rises from the ground and when it bursts, I am face to face with a massive metal worm, one that could rival buildings. And the head of the worm has rows of metal teeth, constantly turning, shredding whatever is in it. As I stare up at the massive worm, one word passes through my head. "Fuck."
