After everyone was done eating, we all sat at the table until Sylvic broke the silence. "I have to tell you kids something." All the kids looked worried, probably thinking back to anything they did wrong while I sat there silently.
"We are adopting Kurayami." The room went silent. If a spider fell, you would of heard it, quiet. The kids looked at me, then at their father, then back at me. 'This reminds me of the stone scene that happened earlier today.' The thought makes me want to laugh at the scene before me but I stay quiet. Sylvic continues.
"I want you to be nice to Kurayami, he may be different and have unique affinities but he is now your brother, so please treat him like one." Two words catch their attention, affinities, and brother. Elva is the first to speak, her plastic smile still on her face but looking more confused now.
"You mean affinity, right?" she asks nervously. Sylvic speaks in a confident tone. "No, affinities, he has two." I scream curses in my mind, 'Gosh dang it you 150 year old koot! Now I gotta tell them my other ability!' A few not so family friendly swears fill my thoughts as the talk outside continues.
They look at me, curiously wondering what other affinity I have while my curse rampage comes to an end in my head. I look at them with as real of a smile I can put on my face. "Yes, I have two affinities, one is darkness, and the other is to control souls."
Now the kids and even their mother is looking from me, to her husband, and back to me, their jaws dropped as I struggle to keep the smile on my face. 'I guess he didn't tell his wife about my other affinity. There goes my secret, you happy now?!' And then I have an idea of how to take advantage of this moment to at least gain something from this.
"Speaking of affinities, I was curious and asked my new siblings what their affinities were and everyone told me except Elva, what are her affinities, I'm curious." "Elva's affinities are Fire and Water. Now I'm curious, why didn't you want to tell him your affinities Elva?" Sylvic said with a curious expression. Elva was now blushing from either anger, embarrassment, or both and took a minute to think of something to say, but still had the same fake smile. "I was feeling a bit shy about telling him about my affinities...after all we just met today." She said with a voice that was slightly less chipper than before.
I was inwardly laughing, 'You didn't want to tell me then, so I found out now.' I look at her and say, "I'm sorry sis, I was just curious and couldn't help myself." She started struggling to keep the smile on her face when she heard the word sis. Sylvic was surprised at how I was accepting this situation really well.
We sat there in silence until we heard, "Can I be excused", followed by "Me as well" which was followed again by "May I also?" Elva, Aeron, and Estel just asked to be dismissed from the table. Sylvic nodded and the three walked upstairs to, what I assume to be, their rooms.
Elanor just stared confused at me, "Does that mean you're my new big brother?" Her eyes wide with anticipation. I nodded with a smile on my face. "Yay, I have another big brother!" She yelled, joy filling her voice. I smiled bc she was cute when she jumped up and down like that. "Ah, I guess I should tell you your new siblings' ages." I hear Sylvic say. "Elanor here is eight years old, Elva is fifteen, Aeron is sixteen, and Estel is seventeen." Elanor yawns as the sentence ends and starts to look sleepy. Then I realize, 'It's 8:30 or somewhere around there. I seriously need to get a watch, first chance I get.' I yawn, realizing that I'm surprisingly and suddenly more tired than I should be.
Sylvic looks at his wife. "Could you take Elanor up to her room Anna? I need to show Kurayami his new room." His wife nods as she picks up Elanor and carries her to her room. As he gets up, he looks at me, "Please follow me." I get up and follow after him and we go up the set of stairs that are in the hallway.
We enter a hallway with six rooms, three on each side. 'This is too little of rooms to have a total of twenty four kids.' As if reading my thoughts, he goes, "We have six more bedrooms in the basement because of all the kids we have had." As we walk down the hallway, he points at each room and names who's it is. "This one is Elanor's, this one's Aeron's, this one's Elva's, this one's Estel's, this one's our's, and this one's your's." He finishes as we get to the last room on the left.
I open the door and am greeted with a room that is as clean as it can be. It has charcoal black walls with a purple bed in the back right corner and a purple carpet. There is a drawer in the back left corner against the left most wall. I see a desk in the front right corner of the room with a yellow crystal in the top left of it and beside that is a bookshelf with books about all types of topics and activities. 'I'll be sure to look through these carefully later.' I think while making a mental note. There is a window beside my bed, showing the moons in the sky and the snow in the air.....wait, 'Moons?!? As in plural?!?!' I look out the window again and stare at the three moons in the sky. They fill the world and kiss the ground with a gentle moonlight, caressing the planet in their light. 'This world is AWESOME!' I think excitedly in my mind. There are four crystals in the corners of the room keeping the room bright as day which then triggers my curiosity.
I look at Sylvic, who is enjoying my amazement and I ask him, "How do I turn these down?" As I point to the crystals in the corners of the room. He looks at me oddly, and reaches out to a knob beside the door. He turns it slowly and as he do, the lights start to dim till there is only the moonlight filling the room. "This is how. Have you never used light crystals before?" I look at him and just say, "The village I was at wasn't the best financially." He nods, acknowledging that he must have forgot how normal wages wouldn't be able to afford them very easily. 'My guess was right! Seeing these crystals only in the examination room wasn't just a random occurrence. Which makes me wonder, how much is this guy making financially? Do healers usually get paid this much?'
I look at him and say, "Thank you, I'm gonna go to bed as I'm really tired for some reason." He looks at me and says, "You used mana for the first time and your body needs time to adapt. I'll leave you to sleep, goodnight." And he shuts the door. I sit on my bed and take off my shoes. Then I cover myself with the blanket and lay my head on the pillow. I fall asleep almost instantly.
