Even in the Immortal realm, there were many immortals that used spirit Qi as their primary energy. They only used Immortal Qi when they really needed to or when they were using things like Immortal formations or Immortal tools.
This usually lasted till they were at the Third Tribulation Stage of the Immortal realm.
