Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Odd Offer

"Mister could you help me get my kitty out the tree?" I looked at the little girl with pigtails. She sniffled so she must have been sick. But what type of parent lets their sick child outside? "Yeah sweetie" I took a couple of steps back and ran toward the tree grabbing a branch and flipping myself up beside the cat. I soothed the cat so I could grab it. I leaped from the tree, landing on my feet and returning the cat to the little girl.

"Thank you mister! Come on Mr.Tinklebottom back inside. It's medicine time." I smiled and kept walking. "Man, I just seen what you did there...do you perhaps want to put your skills to use." A man in all black came up to me. "What?" I questioned. "We need agents like you on the field." "Agents? What is this a movie?" I laughed. "No it's for real. Here give me a call, if you change your mind, boss will love you." He handed me a card. "O-okay" I took the card and stuffed it in my pocket when I looked up he was gone. "weird part of town."

Later, once Autumn was home, I was cooking and going through mail while Autumn was coloring. "Daddy, I color this for you." She handed me a roughly colored Dog. "Thank you sweetie" I placed it on the fridge, then I looked at the mail before me. "Ah, rent is due soon. And more hospital bills from when Autumn had the flu." I sighed as i continued and more and more bills seemed to appear. I banged my head on the table.

"Daddy what's wrong?" "Nothing princess. Just missing your smile. Come on smile for Me, princess." She smiled and returned to coloring. I dropped my head and the card came to mind. I picked up the house phone and dialed the number on the card.

"Mr.Waters, we've been expecting your call" A deep raspy voice came from the other line. "I-I'm calling about a job" "We know. So how about we spit out a few numbers and you tell us yes or no." "Wait, their is one request I have." I interrupted. "Go ahead" "I still want to be able to spend a lot of time with my daughter" There was a lot of noise on the other side. "Sure you can. How old is this angel." I could almost hear his cheeky grin. "She's 3" "Ah, well forget the numbers your first month's check is in the mail and we will hope to see you tomorrow, after little Autumn is dropped off at school." It sounded like he was laughing. "How do you know her name?" I began to panic. "Goodbye Aden" The phone hung up with a quick click. I sighed as I looked at my little girl. This was all for her.
