Cold, knife-like fingers wrapped around YueQin's ankle, pulling her off balance with a surprised yelp. Her hold on MingYu faltered as she pulled her arms forward, bracing herself for the fall.
MingYu dropped down on the ground like a dead body, his hands sprawled out in a painful position. The pewter staff had fallen amidst the dense grass and couldn't be seen anywhere.
The disciples had now moved to the far perimeters, scanning the area with caution.
"Brother MingYu!" YueQin called as she crawled on all fours, looking around the tall, dense ship crop, trying to find the thing that had latched on to her foot just a moment ago.
A milky white creature, with a black flowing mane, scurried past her under the foliage and YueQin shrieked. She jumped on her feet and took hold of MingYu, pulling him up, but the creature now shuffled in front of them and leapt out of the tall grass. YueQin almost threw MingYu off her arms and sped away.
