"D-Denma.... t-that's..." Tem was shocked at first but then remembered how Denma is. At first, the Clan wants him to be the future Patriarch but the youth refused. Denma doesn't care about position at all. What he wants is to pursue the path of Magic
His proposal sounds good but Tem doesn't like it. Although rumors that Calter defeated an opponent that almost has the power of a Magic Warrior spread but that is something very unbelievable
Seeing Kel now made Tem to believed it a bit but he still can't fully believe it. A level 4 Magic Apprentice defeating a peak level 9 is a feat that should be impossible in this world. The difference is too big and it defied all common sense
Unless Tem, personally watch Calter in action, he won't fully believe it
Also, Denma's proposition is not good. For Tem, Denma will win against a level 4 Magic Apprentice despite the rumors. He thinks that Calter just won by sheer luck. Modified human beings have some problems on their bodies after all, Calter must have exploited that weakness to win
But Denma is a genius, his comprehension fits his level. His power is also not unstable. It's okay if Denma proposed that if he win, the Hale Clan will give the property for free but he didn't
"I originally want to buy it. But does the thought of me purposely being defeated does not crossed your mind?" Calter said with a smile and Denma smiled back at him
"With your personality, are you really going do that?" Denam asked back which made Calter's smile to deepen
Calter finally encountered another mage that really wants to pursue magic to its very end. Humans might not realize it but the Nobles subconsciously only think of raising their strength to the Knight Rank
The more ambitious will set a Grand Knight as their goal. But that's the end of it. No one knows why but no mage in the Realm can surpass Rank 3. Even records of the Rank 4 and above mages were nowhere to be seen
Thus, Rank 3 Mage become everyone's goal. This is Calter's first time seeing Denma but he can sense the ambition from the youth. Denma's goal isn't to become a Rank 3 Mage, it's to pursue magic to the very end!
For thousands of years, no Mage broke through in the 4th Rank. This cause their goals to lower and only wished to become a Grand Knight
But Calter is different. He personally witnessed how powerful a Rank 4 Mage is and yearned for that kind of power. Denma on the other hand is ambitious and wants to become as strong as possible
"I won't!" Calter answered while his fighting intent was also ignited. Although he is sure he can defeat Denma but this is the first time he encountered someone like this
Denma also knew how his personality works even though this is the first time they met. Calter is a person that will do everything for his goal
If it will significantly affect him negatively if he wins against Denma then he will naturally purposely get himself defeated. But he still has his pride, since getting a property like that for free isn't a big deal, why should he let himself be defeated?
"It's settled then" Denma said and Calter nodded
Tem has imaginary tears running down his face. These two youths actually ignored him and decided by themselves. If Tem is the Patriarch of either Khan or Shan, he surely won't allow this kind of disrespectful act. Fortunately, he wasn't
Just like that, things were settled. Calter, Denma, Tem, along with the curious onlookers that followed them headed into the training grounds of the Hale Clan
Just like other Clans, they have an open area with target dummies for their spells. There was also a battle ring made for Magic Duels. The two youths stood on the two ends of it
Tem can only sighed at the two and signaled for them to start. Calter just stood there with a wand on his hand. It was still the common wand and not the one his mother gave him. For him, it was enough
Calter's arrogance irritated his opponent and made a 'hmph' sound while thinking "don't underestimate me!"
Denma also has a wand on his hand and he channeled his mana on it to form a spell. "[Dark Magic: Demon's Claw!]" Since his opponent is underestimating him, Denma will naturally use it to his advantage
Demon's Claw is a Rank 0 Level 8 Spell and even him needs two seconds to cast it. In normal fights, his opponent won't give him the chance to use a spell this powerful but for Denma, Calter's carelessness will be the cause of his defeat!
Demon Claw looks like a monster's claw made from black fog. Aside from a terrifying appearance it doesn't look that powerful as if the fog is something that's easy to dissipate
But even Magic Warriors don't like this kind of spell. Although they can destroy it but if it hits them then the consequences are severe!
Aside from the initial damage from getting hit, the fog when had a physical contact to one's skin will bring huge amounts of pain. Not only that, but it will enter your body through the wound it made and wreak havoc inside
Magic Warriors can dispel the fog on their body but it will take at least two seconds and is also a huge waste of mana. Darkness Type Magics are famous for their troublesome effects after all. It might not be the most powerful of all elements but in terms of giving pain and how bothersome to deal with, they are on the top!
Since Calter admired Denma for being that kind of ambitious, he will naturally want to prolong the fight and let his opponent fight him for some time. That's why he let Denma cast such a powerful spell
It might be powerful but Calter doesn't need to deal with it head on!
"[Dark Magic: Evil Stare!]" Even though evil stare is only a Level 6 Spell but Calter is the one using it causing its powers to rose by two levels
Calter's eyes glowed with a purple light causing Denma to fall in an illusion. Denma's body sweated and has a horrified expression on his face as if he saw the scariest thing in the world
Fortunately, the effects only lasted for a few seconds and he immediately recovered. However, it was already too late. Denma lose focused and he wasn't able to control his spell
Thus, the Demon's Claw dissipated into black specks of light that wasted a huge chunk of Denma's mana
Denma was shocked. Normal level 6 Soul Spell does not have that kind of power. Its effects should be lesser than that! At most, it can affect Denma's mind for a bit. However, it didn't
Denma stared at the unfazed Calter while wondering how does the youth did that. He is 4 realms higher than his opponent but in a single exchange, he became the one at disadvantage
His act of activating high levelled spells backfired at him and wasted almost half of his mana
But this didn't make Denma to panic much. Instead, it made him excited. If Calter can be like this then why can't he? He can't force Calter to spill his secrets. But maybe, Calter can give him some hints
"[Dark Magic: Dark Daggers!]" Three black daggers appeared in mid-air and two of it flew in the air towards Calter. This time, it was only a Level 6 Spell but it wasn't to be underestimated!
Just like most Darkness Type Spells, the pain from getting injured by this dagger is more painful than normal injury. If it hit Calter, it will give an opening to Denma for him to finish the fight
If one is in too much pain, it will surely made them unable to cast spells
However, Calter is also a darkness type mage! He used the same spells to counter his opponent's spell. Three black daggers formed in front of him. He didn't even bother moving from his original position. He also let Denma's spells to reach too close to him before he controlled his own daggers to block
If Calter became serious, his daggers will surely become much more powerful than Denma's. But he didn't do so. Hale Clan is not his slave and he cannot control them. A soul spell like Evil Stare is not something Tem or the other Elders can judge without personally experiencing it
They won't know that a Level 6 Spell will have the power of a level 8 one. Even if Denma say it to them, would they believe him?
At most, Calter can show he can cast higher levelled spells. It is also unbelievable but was not enough to attract too much unwanted attentions from Grand Knights of other Cities. Also, Hale Clan can't possibly travel to neighboring Cities for something like that
"Now's my chance!" Denma thought inside his mind and casted another spell. "[Dark Magic: Black Boots!]" Another level 6 Spell just like what Calter uses at the Shan youth before. This spell significantly boosted Denma's speed but it was inferior to Calter's own spell
Denma made three daggers but only use two of it to attack Calter. The remaining one on the other hand was still on him. The youth is holding the dagger on his hand as he charged at Calter's direction
Fortunately, although low levelled mages can only control one active spell at a time. But a spell like Black Boots once activated, the user doesn't need to control it. It will stay on one's body as long as it wasn't destroyed or the mana does not run out
Thus, Denma managed to get only about two steps away from Calter in a fast speed. Denma thought that he will win using this tactic but he was wrong!
Denma was about to use the dagger on his hand when Calter lowered his head to look at him with a smirk. The next thing Denma knew was that he saw a dark light that gave his heart a sense of death. Luckily for him, the light only passed by him and slightly graze his neck
After the sense of death vanished Denma can feel a pain from his neck
This sudden turn of events startled Denma and forced him to stop on his tracks. He touched his neck where the pain came from and he felt some sort of liquid on it
Denma's eyes went wide open when he saw that it was actually his own blood!
Tem and the others were also shock at this. They thought that Denma will have a comeback. Denma casted a level 8 spell before that was wasted. Thus, it was unwise of him to prolong the fight as they already witnessed Calter's unbelievable act of casting spells higher than his level
The smart thing to do is to end the fight as soon as possible. But who would have thought that Calter won't fall for his trick!
In fact, it seems like Calter wasn't shock by it as if he was already anticipating it before. He even used it to his advantage
Denma's body stopped moving after his almost death. He wasn't afraid though. He was just thinking at how skillful Calter is to perform such a feat
It was easy to kill someone using the black dagger but only using it to make a small wound on the neck isn't! If the speed is too slow, Denma can dodge it especially since he still has the Black Boots spell that time
On the other hand, if the speed is too fast, it was easy to make mistakes and accidentally kill someone. Calter's daggers were not only fast, it was too fast!
Denma wasn't even able to react and only saw a flash of dark light. One wrong mistake of Calter and it would be his death. But the smirk on the youth showed how it was easy for Calter to do what he did
Denma turned to look at the smirking Calter while thinking "How can he have this much spell casting talent?!"
