Another week and a half later, I was getting ready to head to the clinic for my first pregnancy checkup. Jason still hadn't arrived home because an emergency caught him in the middle east, so he was solving that, and Sabrina was still avoiding me like the plague, so there was nobody to come with me to the clinic. I briefly thought of taking Hugo with me, even though everything in my being warned me against this course of action. My pregnancy was still a secret and I wanted to keep it that way from everyone. Literally everyone.
"I'm off for my lunch break! I want you out from behind that desk in ten minutes, Hugo, I mean that," my eyes narrowed at my assistant, who blushed and nodded at me. He was so cute. "Good."
I kept my eyes trained on him as I stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the ground floor, doors closing slowly in front of me. It wasn't until the lift started lowering that I resumed my normal stance.
