Dakota shook his head over Michelle's shoulder as I rocked her back and forth. "It'll be alright," I lied, as hot tears rolled down my cheeks.
Slowly, Dakota picked up a thick stick from the ground, then quietly broke it across his knee, as tears trailed down his own cheeks.
I rocked Michelle back and forth, holding her as she wretched with sobs. I closed my eyes, remembering all our good times together. Michelle and I had been friends for years, and there were plenty of memories we shared which ranged from trips to the mall to birthday parties to first dates.
Suddenly, I heard Dakota's sharp intake of breath, and I opened my eyes just in time to see Dakota rearing back his arm to stake my best friend.
