Dakota picked me up early the following morning for school.
"Jess, just a minute," Dad said, stopping me as I started toward the door.
I swung my backpack over my shoulder and waited. "Yes, Dad?"
"I want you and Dakota to follow Mom and me up to the murder site tonight," he said, his eyes filled with concern. "Don't go by yourselves."
I smirked. "Dad, I'll be fine—"
"Jess, if there's something out there killing supernaturals, then I don't want you and Dakota caught out there alone. Okay?"
I nodded. "Okay, Dad. I'll text Mark, and we can all meet at the cabin."
"Thanks, hon," Dad said, pulling me in for a hug. "You made an old man very happy."
"Yeah, right!" I scoffed. "Dad, you are not an old man, by far." Now that he was an Earthangel, he didn't look a day over thirty.
Dad laughed. "Well, I'm older than you think. Have a great day!"
"Thanks, Dad. I will."
