Dakota was waiting for me in his truck early the following day. It was cooler this morning. I sighed, knowing the end of summer would soon be here.
"Have a great day!" Mom said as I came down the stairs. She was dressed in a business suit this morning.
"So, Dad said you're working for the tribe?" I asked, slinging my backpack over my shoulder.
She nodded as a broad smile spread across her lips. "The Tribe hired me as their new Marketing Manager." She shrugged. "I'm getting a crash course in marketing, nonprofits, and applying for grants. But I like it."
"Great!" I pulled her in for a hug and kissed her cheek. "I have to go, but have fun today! I'll see you tonight."
"Be careful!" Mom yelled after me as I rushed out the door.
Dakota was standing on the passenger side, holding the door open for me. "Ready?"
