"What was that all about?" I asked, looking over at Michael.
I don't know, but I'm going to find out, Michael said, rising to his feet. Dakota and I started to get up, too, but Michael held out his hand. "No. Go ahead and order. I'll be right back." He gave me a friendly wink. "Order me the buffet." Then he darted out.
"Hello, again!" Kristie said, pulling out a waitress pad and pen from her apron. "What would you like to drink?"
"A diet and a regular cola for our friend," I replied "And the buffet."
"Cola and the buffet for me, too," Dakota added beside me.
"Sounds good!" She tapped her pen on her pad and smiled. "Go ahead and help yourself to the buffet, and I'll be right back with your drinks!"
"She's one of the happiest people I've ever met." I chuckled, sliding out of the booth.
"Jess, we're good, right?" Dakota asked, placing his hand on the small of my back as we headed toward the buffet.
