"Dakota?" I gently shook his shoulders, wondering if he made it out of the Inbetween safely. "Dakota?"
Suddenly, the monitors started beeping and his heart monitor flatlined.
A nurse rushed over with a Crash Cart. "Move out of the way!"
I stumbled backward as a team of nurses and doctors rushed in to work on Dakota.
"I don't understand," I said, stumbling back toward the wall.
"Miss, come with me and let them work," a nurse said, her voice soft as she gently placed her hand on my arm.
"But I don't understand," I repeated as I let the nurse walk me toward the door.
Suddenly, Michael walked past me, rushing to Dakota's side.
"No!" I screamed. If Michael was there, it only meant on thing. He was there to escort Dakota to the afterlife. "Michael, don't take him!"
"Who are you yelling at?" the nurse asked. "The nurses and doctors are trying to save him."
