"I'm going to go see Dakota," I said to Dad after we finished dinner. "I'll be back soon."
"Okay. But don't be too late." He nodded, smiling. "The second night of the full moon is tonight." Then his expression became serious as he looked into my eyes. "Jess, you don't have to go on patrol tonight if you don't want to. I'll text Mark and we can take care of everything."
"No, Dad," I replied. "I have a responsibility to my pack. And after the last battle, the Dark Rider may return. And if he does, I need to be there."
He nodded, and then pulled me in for a hug. "Just be safe."
"I will, and you be safe, too," I said, releasing him. "I'll meet you at the cabin before the full moon."
Dad nodded and then walked away.
"Don't worry," Mom whispered. "I'll look after him. Just take care of yourself."
