"Dad, why did you come here?" I asked, rushing over to him. "You could have been killed!"
Dad slipped his rifle into his truck as the police sirens drew near. "If you think for one moment that I was going to let you come out here with just Dakota, then you have another thing coming."
"Dad, the rest of the pack was here," I said, knowing the police would be there at any moment. "What if you had been killed?"
Dad shook his head. "You and the pack need to get out of here before the police arrive. I'll take care of them. They'd never believe what happened here tonight if I told them the truth."
"Dad, you shot and killed Cathy," I said. "You know, Crystal isn't just going to let it go."
